We are reconing the Advents this week. Then we are going to sand them down and paint them a high gloss black! WOO HOO! lol! So far we have 1 done (partially, the surround is glued to the cone...) Will Post pics, in a minute or 40

Gloss black? Didn't you say that they were in walnut? I don't really know much about your speakers, but if they have a wood veneer man you should just put a clear finish on them! hehe just my opinion, but I love the look of wood speakers.

We decided to do a clear finish to them. The problem we had was he has 2 pairs. 1 speaker did not have a original woofer, but a good cabinet. The other had a original woofer but a damaged cabinet. We are going to bring in the cabinet with the non-original woofer and put the original in it. Recone it, sand it down. Sand it! Wooo Hooo! Can't wait..haha

Surrounds redone, and all plugged up. Will have pics up in about 1 hour. People sleeping, but I tell ya man. These advents can really move some effin air. Im not kidding! lol! I mean dang! lol! Talk about bass! The tweeters....SMOOOOOOOOOOOTH!

The original Advent was one of Henry Kloss' gems. Great two-way design...

Nice to hear they're appreciated by another generation...

I passed up a pair at a yardsale that needed new foam surrounds, could have got them for 10 bucks. I feel a swift kick coming.

Man it took me a total of prolly 3 hours to get that mess off the diaphram and recone thos mother crackers! lol! But all in all, it was worth it. My dad helped me with the gluing, but I did most of it. Pretty sweet job if u ask me (for a first timer) Oh yeah, that is my step mom's decorating (not mine)

If they were the originals, with the cabinets in good shape, you deserve one... $10 and no shipping??? Oh, mannnnn….

The oak cabinets ones with the half-round dressing the front edges go for ~$200 on ebay, even if they need new surrounds. But even the square front, utility cabinets go in the low to mid- 100’s. Gotta love those orange tweeters,

Hard to see what you have there Sid, but looks like maybe the second generation, Advent II’s. Can you throw a bit more light on the subject?

According to my Dad. Their 30 years old. Thats all I know, they were the model right after Mr. Kloss left the company and started *cambridge?* I am unsure on this. Is there a place to look?

Don't know of any sites that have a picture gallery of all the models. I have collected quite a few off of ebay listings. If you can post a better pic of one with the grill off, I might be able to ID it.

If they came out after Kloss left, then they were still decent speakers, decline came a bit later, but they are later than 2nd generation.

I value the originals the most, but highest price I've seen was for a second generation pair.... over $400 as I recall.

ALRIGHT! 2 hours later...1 speaker done. Turns out, the side panels are a different type wood than the front panel wood. The front panel stuff is Walnut. The side is...w/e. Well it looks AWESOME! Ill post pics later...

Yup, later model Advent. The bead around the outside edge of the grill and the badge design say so. Good outdoor pic with the grill off should confirm with a black front on cabinet and flush mounted tweeter.

Might want to consider leaving them in the original walnut. Worth more that way should you ever sell.

Im leaving it how it came out. The sides are maple and the front stuff is walnut. Thats how it is, I just clear coated it..

Good move... I did overestimate the go rate for these. Closer to $150 +/-.... Still they are better than the later ones with the tweeter aligned over the woofer. A pair of those selling for $400 made no sense to me.
