I dont have a land line because i wont pay verizon twice - and extra for long distance (which is effectively free with a cell phone)

Oh, no, you pay for it. It just doesn't get broken out on your bill. Look at the various plans from your provider. There will be a very basic plan with local phone service only and barebones options as well as no long distance or roaming. Then find the next plan up that has "free" long distance and whatever other options they might have. Typically texting and roaming are all thatshows up. You'll pay an extra 5-15 bucks a month for that. That's where your "free" long distance is.

if the iphone wasnt locked into AT&T, the droid wouldnt have a toe hold anywhere.

Doubt that. BlackBerry has managed to survive this onslaught of this uber phone called the iPhone. the Android phones sell well because they are a better phone in many respects not the least of which is the ability to decide which carrier you want use. That is a big issue for many people. I know it is for me.

You can keep that, you're gonna need to pay for all those text messages your daughter sends you and your "free" long distance you use when you call her back.

If the rumors are true, then Verizon will be getting the iphone. Apparently, Apple is trying to get out of it's 5 year exclusivity contract with AT&T due to it's poor ability to deal with the extra traffic.

Not until 2012 at the earliest. By then, the new iPhones will be out. Although, it's likely that Apple will have lost a gigantic part of it's market share by then I think.

Gotcha. I had mine for a year. I like most about it except MS Mobile and call quality.

I loved mine. My biggest complaint was its bulkiness. But it did everything I needed it to do at the time.

My needs have changed a lot since then and right now, the Nexus One does everything I need it to do.

You guys sure do throw a lot of big numbers around.

    Land line...32.00

    cell phone 45.00

I ditch the land and pay the extra 13 per month for mobility. Simple decision here.

Settle down Macboy, it wasn't a jab at Machumpers nor was it meant to impress any of them. Then again if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas now wouldn't we? Mac routinely commits market Harakiri by not allowing licensing and artificially capping their market through strong-armed business deals. They come out with something they think is fancy, pass around the kool-aid and everybody drinks up. Then, the rest of the market comes out with something equal or better, on a cheaper price point and Mac gets left in the dust until it comes up with the next "big" thing. Like tablet PC's. 'Cause, like, you know, those haven't been around for a decade or anything.

All I wanted to do was share something that I thought was interesting. Not just because the iPhone is facing new and stiffer competition but because the technology that the rest of the world seems to enjoy is finally getting in to the hands of Americans and you don't have to sign your life away to AT&T to get it either. That fosters competition which stimulates growth and advancements which, last I checked, was a pretty good thing.

Trust me, I'm far from a fan boy. While I love my iPhone, I hate mac computers. All pc all day. My last phone was the tmobile wing (mobile pc) and it was just decent. Moving to the iPhone was a dream. Wish it was more like a jailbroke version out the box but mines done so I am more than happy. I have stuff on here my android fanboy friends can't do so I'm stoked. If they made android more proprietary, it'd open the opportunity for accessories and could knock off apple but till then, apple will hold that crown.

Android just needs to watch out for platform fragmentation.

I have the Droid Eris, while on the small size I actually love the functionality of it, and have no issues at all with any apps.

I have always wanted the iPhone, but AT&T's service in Tucson is just atrocious. I will stick with the droid and Verizon's service.
