SurroundBar SDA sub on carpet - should I put it on a hard surface?

I just purchased a SurroundBar SDA IHT. The room where I am locating this system is carpeted. I would think that the carpet adsorbs the sound from the sub, since the speakers are facing downwards in the cabinet. Is this an issue and should I place something hard beneath the speaker to get more bass sound?

the general thought is that it makes the sub sound muddy. I have always had something under the sub so that its not directly on the carpet. I use large ceramic floor tiles they can be found for less then $2 at most home improvement stores

If the subwoofer box is MDF you could spike it. (http://myesound.com/Points_n_pads.html) Parts Express sells speaker spikes too and I use those more often than not since I order a fair amount of stuff from them anyway. You'll have to drill holes in the corners of the enclosure, but the spikes will elevate the box off the carpet and hold it steady so that the subwoofer moves air instead of moving itself.
