Hi all...
I learned a few weeks ago that Sony didn't just make good TV's when I purchasaed my Sony SSM7a's.
Now I saw this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Sony-SRA-2-tube-preamplifier-excellent-/150440744363?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item2306f795ab
Sony made tube preamplifiers? Were they/are they any good? Any info on them? I know that Sony is typically thought of as low budget now, especially when it comes to entry level AVR's. Not sure what the thoughts on these are.
Thanks,
James

It is a record/playback EQ preamp for a true tape deck (in the old days, a deck had only low level tape head output with no onboard electronics to EQ or amplify the signal to line level).
They're OK; nothing special as such preamps go.
They're generally not terribly expensive. -
oog. (or, if you prefer, ugh).

Are we in violent agreement, Mr. Russ?

I'd pass. The only Sony products that are worth buying, in my experience, are their CD players. Some of the older Sony ES 2 channel gear is decent...but nothing I'd ever really consider buying.
They do make some fine CDP's though. The nirvana inducer-

The mid-1960s Sony 777 reel to reel deck was quite good.

everything ive ever bought from them ive liked. if you had read their bio you would know their whole concept in the beginning wasnt making TV's it was making sound equipment. sony also has a reputation for "revolutionizing" several areas of the electronics industry.
