Does anyone have spikes on their 15TL's and if so who/where did you get them from.

no haven't done that yet. Totally forgot about trying it to see what difference it would possibly make. Only thing though is my carpet is a thicker pile so I'm not sure if the spike will penetrate it like it should, I just want to try and see.

do you know where or what size the threads are so I could possibly get some. The only spikes I have right now are the ones from my RTIA9's but I am missing a set.

I was looking for a set for my RTA 15's as well but was unsure what model/shape to buy. Are the spikes supposed to penetrate the carpet and pad to the subfloor or just create a divit in the carpet.

I have some spikes in a bag that look like a large 16 penny nail but was unsure what would work best. Can someone explain the difference briefly between these Mye Sound style spikes etc........ Thanks

They should penetrate the carpet and make contact with the subflooring.

Just use whatever you have handy, it's a personal choice on this end.

I wish I had the time to make a bunch of these, but these are what I made at work on the lathe for my 1.2tl's and my 1C's.. I made them out of 1 inch round brass.

Wow! Thanks to all for this much valuable info. I'm going to definitely spike my 15Ts. I bet there are a bunch of RTA 15T and TL owners that don't know about the benefits of spiking their bad boys.

LMAO!!! If I had a lathe in my garage I would be good to go, and the room. Better yet If we had an automatic feed Lathe that would be even better, that way all I would have to do is set it up put in a 10 foot length of brass and let them just drop off.

Maybe when I get a few things caught up on the home front I will get a few of us together on some brass and I will do something like the SDA SRS crossover plates..

It takes 2 feet of brass to make 8 of these spikes.

Spikes completely transformed my speakers. You've heard them. I had less than half that bass authority before they were spiked. I was about to get rid of them before i spent the $6 on spikes. :p

Hi, this is actually my very first post - been a Polk fan for a while now (sry just now getting around to joining). So, I may be able to purchase a black pair of RTA 15TL's for under $200.00 Should I, Could I? I don't have the power right now to drive them but was thinking about a GFA 5500 or 555 or monoblocks? What dooes anyone have to say about that?

Also, what exactly do the spikes do? Do they address the positioning issues and "boominess" of the bass? I'm a Noob!

    Thanks

for 200 that is a good price IMO. As long as they are in good condition and fully functioning I would say pick them up. If you could well I can't really speak for your own money or weather you have the room ect to do so. For the amp the 555 would be fine to power them. They are 90DB speakers so won't take a crap ton of power to drive them.

The spikes helped tighten up the low end. The boominess normally will come from room place such as being placed close to the side and rear walls as they have the back radiator that will reflect off the rear wall and can add some unwanted boom to bass. I however have not had a problem with boominess or anything, just found that spikes tightened up the low end a bit and was a bit more detailed than before.
