Lost my sunglasses at zoo...

My fault entirely. I always wear them with a nylon lanyard and it must have broken off at some time while I was taking pictures. I had taken the family to Chattanooga for the weekend to do the tourist thing and I lost my Maui Jim sunglasses at the zoo. Retraced my steps as best I could and inquired at the gift shop/lost-found desk.

Having said all that, my main disappointment was in myself and the loss of $250 eye wear. Had the pair for years and I'm almost anal when it comes to taking care of stuff like that.

I must admit my disappointment also with the person that found them and did not turn them in. Nice windfall for them, but does not speak highly of their moral character. I was taught honesty.

Thanks for allowing the vent.

Absolutely possible that they were destroyed accidentally. My wife always accuses me of being the eternal pessimist, although I do not enjoy the title. Fortunately, she offsets me as the eternal optimist!

Bummer dude. I know how you feel. I've been using the same pair of Serengeti shades since about 2001. When you find a pair you like, that looks good, you never want to replace them. The frames are starting to get a little loose, but the lenses are still nearly perfect. I keep them in the car mostly in their case.

We went to the Nature Center, then the Aquarium. My wife signed us up for the Behind the Scenes tour, which was worth every penny! Very informative, truly behind the scenes access and my daughter got to feed some of the critters.

Spent the night in an old Victorian train car (Choo Choo resort), then did the zoo on Sunday.

We'll be going back to do all those you mentioned and others. It's less than 2 hrs away, so can be a day trip on occasion.

I feel your loss. I've had the same pair of Ray Bans for years now. I'd be supremely upset to lose my faithful eye protection.

Sounds like it was a good trip though! I'll have to get out that way the next time I'm in western NC.

This is why I think a $250 pair of sunglasses is a complete waste of money.

I've never spent more than about $15-20 on a pair of sunglasses, so I'm never really upset about losing them.

With cheaper sunglasses, I also don't have to look like a nerd while wearing one of those lanyards, either.:p

When I need to remove my glasses, I use the "top of the head" method. I very rarely have them fall off.

    Either way though, that sucks!

As others have said though, it's entirely possible that they were destroyed before anyone even noticed them. Step on a pair of sunglasses one time, and 99% of the time they're toast.

Had a crappy day at the office Tuesday. I left a little earlier than usual because I could detect a meltdown in the near future.
Went home and mowed the lawn, then generally chilled out after the second Monday this week.

I get up at 5am to run weekday mornings, so I turn in before 10pm whenever possible. Must have fallen asleep quickly because I was startled when my wife came in the room and announced that someone was at the front door.

I threw on a robe and opened the door to find a young man who wanted to verify my name as he produced my sunglasses. It seems he works at the zoo and has a girlfriend in my town.

I'm afraid I was not fully awake and stumbled through a brief conversation with the guy, who I let leave empty-handed. I should have at least offered him gas money.

Now that I'm rested I intend to write the Director of the zoo a letter of appreciation and include a donation to the zoo. I'll also include the wayward gas money for the guy who went out of his way to deliver my glasses.

Thought you all might enjoy a happy ending as much as I am.

Wow...nice to get your glasses back. I remember some years back I had some expensive Serengeti sunglasses. Went snowmobiling and then stopped for gas, put the glasses on the seat, gassed up, then restarted the machine and the glasses fell to the ground while I was putting on my helmet. Somehow I kicked them under the machine and ran them over. Nice, real nice!

I'm glad you got them back.

For me...I buy 2-3 pairs of 10 dollar sunglasses a year because I lose everything.

Nice Karma for the guy that returned them!
