Subwoofer height

This has probably been discussed in a previous thread, (sorry if it was). I noticed that on photos of the great systems that you guys share, a lot of the subs are elevated. I have a Velodyne VRP-1200 sub (front firing-rear port) with Polk TSi 100's in my smaller listening room and i get a little bit of "boom" at the bottom sometimes. Worse yet the sub is 30 inches from a couch and is almost in a corner. The owner manual also states that when using the speaker level inputs, the crossover is set at 80 hz. I have an older amp, so line level is not an option. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I probably should have asked if raising the sub might improve the sound.

rasing it helps some. Looking at some of the google images of your sub, it dosent seem to have feet. You may wanna invest in some feet to lift the sub off the floor. There are some sites that sell them, I dont know of any myself but I am sure some polkie will point you in the right direction.
One thing I didnt see you mention was if the sub was on carpet or a hard surface. That can make a huge difference in how the sub sounds. My living room is carpet so I purchased a large 18"x18" ceramic tile for a few dollars and place my sub on that. It helped with some muddy sounds and some of the boominess.
Regarding the placement, from what I have read, moving the subs location can drastically affect how the sub preforms. If thats not a option then pulling it away from the wall some or as far out of the corner as possible.
In reality the best thing you can do is what i did. search and search and search. Thanks for the response. It is in a finished basement room with carpet over concrete. You are right, no feet. The sub sits low. It looks like a fun little project for me, I'm making this my very own listening room, away from my family LOL.

Thank you for that link. I have a large piece of carpet that matches the floor and most of those materials laying around. The wheels are turnin'.

ive noticed from experience raising a sub higher (like 4 feet off ground) can reduce standing waves at standing level (where u stand up and the bass gets louder, sit down it goes back to normal) but other that that idk. i can say adding feet concentrate LF energy onto the floor which can cause uneven bass mo i wouldnt do it.
