So I walked in to my local mardens to get a mattress topper my mattress is like 15 years old and i cant afford a new mattress... anymore ha.
I found like 10 or 15 monster standard thx i100 cables for 5.99... I was like wow... is this real? Monster for under $20? I picked up a pair.
If anyone wants any I can pick a few up? Pay shipping and like $5 I'll send em your way. Dont know exact amounts of how many they have but...
Anyway they are 8 feet long analog left right connectors.

Haha. Still either way you think about it...a cable is really a cable in my opnion and it will probably come in handy at some point.

For now, at least since I am not running anything that really needs high end cables a simple monster cable will do the job for most my household tasks.
I realize that as I upgrade I will not be bale to get by with simple monster cables...I will have to spend useful money on the higher end brands of cables.
It's just that I mean for $6 where can you really pick up a standard right left channel cable.
I only have an HK 3490 and a monitor 50s with a 505...nothing really high end about it....its just entry level and for now. That suits me just fine. :)

I could be wrong, but I think most people, on here anyways, stay away from Monster products because of the company's ethics. Havent tried them myself so I cant speak of the quality.

For those who don't know, Mardens is a discount chain that buys close out and bankruptcy lots, insurance lost merchanise, and even real fire damage sales (everything you can think of)....so if he/she bought Monster from them it was 'remaindered' and sold at a LOSS. And you're right Knuckle..it is about ethics.

There are better and there are worse to be found.

Ever researched the company and it's practices? That's what we talk about when the word "ethics" is involved. M* has no ethics and I don't advocate their use based on the crap they've pulled in the past.

    Thanks for the offer PerfectCreature!

The only Monster I found to be truely good were the Monster Phase Aligned Time Coherent speaker cables. They really sounded great, ask Sal, he bought them from me. They were however $11 per foot at the time but I got a huge discount because I was an audio dealer at the time and bought a whole spool of it. I still use them in my fronts & center of my HT.

Other than that, their ICs & regular speaker cable were crap that I gave up in the '80s. They actually sounded like there was a blanket over the speakers.

The stock power cord on my NAD is only 18 awg lol. Monster IC's suck, poor construction and I had a lot of trouble getting a pair on my headphone amp/ NAD because the connectors were so small. Damn near thought I broke the RCA inputs on the NAD trying to get that crap on.

That list will probably change quite a bit as you learn more and more. I'm shooting for a NAD M3 as my "realistic" dream amp, unless I suddenly am able to afford a McIntosh integrated amp lol.

Just keep learning and enjoying the music. Don't let anyone beat you down; there is a lot of elitism in hifi.

Just so you know 18awg is huge for a IC, Bens i believe come in at 22 and 24 awg. The smaller the AWG the better on IC's.

Thanks for pointing that out :) I was wrong. I've been looking at the 9AWG Pangea Audio power cable too much that I began to think 18AWG was tiny.
In that case, I should have typed 28 :D

You must be buying NASTILY CHEAP mattresses then if their lifespan are only 7 to 8 years. I also guess the quality of your audio equipment is somewhat better than the quality of your mattresses since you have more passion for your sound gear than you do have for your sleeping gear :(

PC, I never cared for Mon$ter cables as they are overpriced for what they are however, at that price you did really good since you are just starting in your audio journey. You have builted a nice little starter system but you are definitely right that you do not put huge money on cables on such system. I personnally think monster cables at that price is much better than $ store cables that was previously mentioned in the thread.

I sure can appreciate you are builting your system slowly according to what your budget can provide. Good on you, good wisdom ;)

    Cheers!

HAHA. A mattress isn't intended to last 15 years and God forbid you keep it and just put a new topper on it. The horror. I'll let you keep it 10 years but that's all I am willing to negotiate. I am afraid to know how long you might keep any given pillow

Well, at mardens I found a 6 inch memory, 12 pound foam mattress topper. SO far i've slept two nights on it and feel like I have gotten like 12 hours of sleep instead of the 6 or 7 I actually get.
It was only like $50 so I figured I'd go for it.
