I received this as an email today. How stupid do they think we are?
Dear Taxpayer,

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $397.50.

Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access your tax refund, use the form attached to this email.

Regards,
Internal Revenue Service

It didn't even come from a .gov email address. BTW the dopes didn't attach the "form" to the email. UGH!

The dead give away on this one is its supposed to be from the IRS. I think everyone knows the IRS pretty much never sends anyone anything... and when they do - its to let them know they will receive a response in a month - and then after that their response says they'll do what that letter says in 8 weeks.

The IRS should not exist. My pimply nose step bro could do what the IRS does more effeciently...

Grab a list of, say, 100,000 email addresses. If only a tenth of a percent actually respond, that gives you 100 suckers whose bank accounts can be bled dry. Even at one-hundredth of a percent, that's 10... Or you could send out a million or more... In any case, all you need is one gullible individual, and you could have a fairly lucrative day, or week - or month.

Be mindful of the more socially-engineered variety. A friend's email account was hacked recently (changed his password). Then the scumbags sent what appeared to be personal emails from him - written and signed just as he would, since they also had access to his sent mail... They explained that he had to suddenly fly to the UK to tend to his sick Aunt... Of course, he needed some $$ to fly her back and pay for her surgery, which was curiously unavailable over there... Hopefully nobody responded - perhaps it was because the emails were all sent out on April 1 - I actually thought it was some sick joke he was pulling (although that would not have been like him). The worst part was that once he became aware of the situation, he couldn't even contact everyone, because his contacts were only available in his account. He ended up making lots of phone calls.

From what I've read, some of these things will actually deposit money to your account, and pay you a percentage of the funds. It all depends on whether you mind money laundering for drug/weapons cartels...

As tight as money is here, I wouldn't even consider helping out criminals!
