psw125 or psw505

Read a few posts on here regarding both subs and most people say 505 is better. Im located in canada and can't seem to find any 505's anywhere and if i buy it online then i have to pay shipping, taxes duties and brokerage fees. Would i still be happy with the psw125? or should i pay the extra fees and get the 505 instead. Also which model is newer? 125 or 505? im assuming 505 but i dont really know. Thank you for your comments :)

I haven't heard the 125 but I love my 505 and it seems to get recommended over the 125 most of the time. How much would it cost for the 505 shipped to you?

The 505 has more power and plays lower LFEs by several decibels over the 125. The 125 is not bad at all..and in a medium to smaller room would be OK....it'd be fine for music but the 505 would give you more HT low end...that's why it gets the nod. If you can live with a bit less low end the 125 would be fine...but why don't you consider a DSWpro500 which would be available? Are those up there?

    thanks for the advice.

Here is the cost of psw505 if i bought it on ebay
Though if its made in USA i dont have to pay the duty
    Grand total is $469.82
    ebayba.jpg

And the psw125 i can buy at my local futureshop for
    $497.19 taxes included

So i guess overall its pretty much the same price when all said and done. Though id like the convience of buying directly from futureshop. I havn't heard either sub but if you guys say 505 is better i guess i should get it. I can only spend around $500

So those prices are in U.S. dollars? Yes? Because you could get a DSWpro 500 for around a bit over 500? And that would be newer tech and a bit tighter bass than the older 505?

But if it is a choice between the 125 and the 505. That's pretty much a done deal..go with the 505.

    Good Luck...

another thing is the one from ebay doesnt accept returns which is understandable but what if something went wrong? I guess there would be no warranty through Polk or anything?

There's gotta be another option if you can swing $500. Maybe look into a different brand. For $500 you should be able to get something better than the 505.

im really not a connoisseur of audio equipment so i wouldn't know what to purchase. The only two good brands i know are Polk and Klipsch. Locally these are really my only options here

I agree with you but these are CANADIAN dollars not U.S. so that's not really 500 U.S. its less.

In terms of future shop the best price to ratio sub on that site would be the Velodyne 4000 for 799 Canadian. If you could swing that that would be my 1st choice on their list--before we start upping the anty. The Martin Logan Dynamos are not bad either...

But if your budget is limited you're OK with the 505--it's just that the sub can be had for 250 U.S. on this side which is what Slinger is alluding to because it's discontinued...but people seem to forget that that was once a real 500 dollar sub from Polk.

I am pretty sure there is a svs distributor there in Canada. I would look into this and see if they are that much more than the Polk's that you are currently looking at. An SVS would be a significant improvement in my opinion.

    1 Canadian dollar = 0.959141 U.S. dollars
The only real factor is the cost of shipping it.

The 125 is newer and still in the current Polk lineup. The 505 is listed under recent and vintage models. I believe it was replaced by something in the DSW line.

FWIW I just upgraded from a PSW12 to a 505 and I'm very pleased with the result. I've never heard the PSW125 but I believe its similar the the PSW12 with the exception that the PSW125 has a down firing port versus a forward firing port on the PSW12. With music, the 505 is definitely tighter and more solid. I have a few concert blu-rays that I enjoy. Among them is David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall. The bass passages mostly during the beginning of Time would cause obvious signs of distress when played loudly with the PSW12. I used to have to be sure to turn the volume down some when it came to that track. Last night I tried it with the 505 and although it shook the room, it stayed clean and controlled. I really liked it. When I put in Roy Orbison Black and White Night, I was at first disappointed. But after listening a while I realized it was much cleaner bass and began hearing notes that I don't remember with the PSW12. I would say that the 12 has a somewhat muddier sound as compared to the 505. With movies it goes lower and provides greater rumble when called for. A room shaker if it needs to be. Got the 505 from Newegg here in the states for 229.00. Thats less than I paid for the PSW12 a few years ago...

thanks for the info. So many options available. I think if i lived in USA i would definitely pull the trigger on the 505. The only reason im holding back is because of it being discontinued and having to buy it online with shipping costs etc etc. Why Canada why!

The DSW PRO 500 offered is a good price in Canada, where speakers are typically twice the price compared to the US.

Yeh it looks like a good price, however by the time i get the money to buy the sub i'll be 8 days too late for that sale. So maybe i should be looking for dsw's instead. Im sure ebay has some at a decent price.

Got to agree with both geebolt and xcapri (suggested the 500 above).

My first sub was a PSW12 years ago....OK but exhibited much of what geebolt describes all too well....I upgraded to a Boston Sub that is very similar (spec-wise) to a DSWpro 600...more controlled bass....wall shaking LFEs...lows to 25hz +/-3db.....300 watts RMS/600 watts peak. And you can do EVEN BETTER! Much better....But who has the bucks!!

You would need to use a credit card to purchase it on-line from Visions.
Do you have a close relative or very good friend that can help with that?
Pay them back on the 20th when you get paid.

Sounds good on paper but it wouldn't be an option really. I could use a prepaid credit card if I had to but then the sale would be over. I think i'll try to find one on ebay im looking at the dsw 600. Its a bit more money but might be worth it. Any thoughts about the 600?
