hey guys, goin to check out a pair of RTA-8s tomorrow afternoon, whats the general consensus on these speakers? Also, are the ones in the pictures the standard T or the TL? I noticed the tweeter doesn't look like the sl2000 that I thought came with the standard version. Value wise, i'm looking at paying $90 for em, that seem fair? They look pretty clean.

$80-$90 is a good price and they do look like the TL version.

Those are TL's and that's a very good price if they are 100% working and in good shape.

I had a pair of 8TLs that I gave to my oldest son, due to "not yet" WAF, he has them closetized. Maybe I'll get them back! It's a great sounding pair of speakers, for a nice pair, that's a good price.

The Monitor 5s can't compare, in my opinion. You should be blown away at the improvement. YMMV.

Not entirely sure, but I'd imagine they're a bit lighter on bass. However, if you plan to stick them in a HT, they should be much better. Not sure actually; never heard an RTA. :p

They are similar to 5B's but they have better bass and image better. They are a floor standing speaker and will energize a larger room better than the 5B's. Same type of speaker in a larger cabinet which uses a port rather than a passive radiator (which is a type of ported enclosure)

I'd take the 5B's for a small room and the 8TL's for a larger room and @ $80-90 they are well worth that and more.

That is a bit over stated, but I agree the 8TL's will give you everything and more compared to the 5B's. :)

I'm not a huge fan of round ported speakers. I much prefer the passive radiator even though it is a type of port as well. If these are going in a larger room or for an HT set-up that would be perfect.

I had 11T's at one time and preferred those over the 8's.
