Taking a road trip to Florida

In about two weeks I will be taking a road trip out to Fort Meyers, Florida. I will be leaving either from Oklahoma or Texas, so not sure yet about the route to get there. Anyone have suggestions for nice, clean beaches? My understanding is that Miami is not that far away, I may go just to see what its all about but really do not care for all the tourism. Do not care much for dance clubs, but live music would be a plus. I have heard about some nice beaches out there with powder like sand, but could not remember the names or locations. Any one with suggestions? It is greatly appreciated!

Again if the spill hasn't reached the area..Sanibel and Captiva Islands are the best for shelling and both have beautiful beaches....worth the time for a drive to Marco Island for the day.....enjoy your trip..............

I did a job in florida stayed about 3 months went to just about every city in florida. If your coming from texas you MUST i say MUST stop in Destin Ft walton beach. I visited just about every beach in florida and none compared to destin. Fine grain white sand turquoise water just absolutely stunning. If you are staying in Ft Meyers I would suggest Punta Gorda beach very nice not to crowded. Dont waste your time with miami beach nothing to see there move along. But if your going to go that direction go ahead and make your way to Key Largo then out to Key West lots to do very nice drive and beaches. Have fun and dont forget to stop in Destin you wont be dissapointed it is a site to see I would put it in 1 of the top 5 beaches in the world. Edit forgot about the oil.:(

Pensacola to Destin have sugar white sand beaches and sand dunes. Beautiful beaches.

Destin is probably up there in one of the top 2 or 3 beaches in North America. Top 5 in the world? Have you ever heard about the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands? ;)
