Dawgfish stopped in to drop off a Denon 2900 for me to mod for him. We sat down and talked a bit. Really nice guy, and his lab was nice too. I played some disks for him between chats. He will be up in my area and we are going to do some camping/native trout fishing along with some listening.
Thanks DawgFish
Ben

Very cool! It's always great to meet up with fellow Polkies!

So, what mods are being performed on the 2900? I've half thought about tinkering with my 2910, to see if any more performance can be squeezed out of it. I'll most likely just upgrade to a dedicated CDP though, before I ever get around to that.
    The nirvana inducer-
    APC H10 Power Conditioner
    Marantz UD5005 universal player
    Parasound Halo P5 preamp
    Parasound HCA-1200II power amp
    PolkAudio LSi9's/PolkAudio SDA 2A's/PolkAudio Monitor 7A's
    Audioquest Speaker Cables and IC's

OpAmps are being swapped out for some OPA2134's. The electrolytic filter caps are being removed, and the muting resistors are being bypassed.

I was on the hunt for a really great SACD/CDP. I was looking at Esoteric models as well as others. The player I really wanted, the MF kw was way out of my league. So I bought a really great sounding CDP and went with a 2900 for SACD with the intension of down-the-line getting a better SACD player. However, I was kicking around the idea of getting the 2900 modded by Modwright or Underwood but Ben told me about his mods to the audio board and I'm going to try that option and see what it gets me.

I think it is a good idea, if one can't afford the higher end SACD/CDP which I can't, to go the two different less expensive player route as it can get you there with the proper research and listening.

    Ben,

Thanks for the kind words! It was really great finally meeting you in person also! Buddy and I enjoyed it. Ben, you're even nicer in person than you are over the board and on the phone. It was a pleasure. I got a chance to hit a friend's pond today. I caught a ton of bass and some nice bream on the flyrod. It was awesome! Tomorrow morning I'm heading out to a favorite wild trout stream on the GA/NC border. I can't wait! I'm looking forward to showing you some of the hiden gems we have in the area. There are a ton of them.

Joe, thanks for the kind words, and thanks for the advice Curt!

Not met. Meet. It was meant that you should meet a Polkie when you can. Good spelling, but bad grammar.

I can see how it could be taken both ways. His post was referring to a Polkie dropping by his house, so I took it to mean past-tense.

But based on title alone and using the post as a description of such a meeting, I could see your point.
