It's been a LOOONG time, but they aren't bad. IIRC, they were supposed to be in-phase, time coherent. I am foggy on the rest because it's been so long.

I'd snatch them up quickly if I were you. I've never heard them before but don't think I have seen too many folks speak badly of them. I'd love to score a set one day. What model are the ones you are looking at?

GET THEM..! you'll have a rare set of fine speakers there.;)
you won't be disapointed in the least, even if you have to do work on them. I've only read and heard high praise for them.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

The Timewindows were a pretty cool speaker back when released. My roomate when I was in college had a pair. They need some room around them to breathe. The socks/grill make a big difference and is important as a diffuser. The original Phillips tweeters were nice sounding. I listened to a lot of Pink Floyd, Jan Michael Jarre, The Band, Grateful Dead on those speakers for a couple of years. If there in good shape give them a try.

    Hello,
DCM produced a few vinyl records as demonstrations. They are on the Timegate label, very rare and supposed to sound amazing. There's a Bach Brandenburg Concerto that's reported to be the best ever.

I wouldn't have guessed you as a JM Jarre fan. Equinoxe was the first cd I had heard back in 1984.

I've heard them before. Not bad sounding...but not great either IMO. I remember them being fairly neutral sounding...and a bit light on the low end. They had a pretty nice sounding high end.

At a thrift store though, I'm guessing the price is more than fair...so they're probably worth picking up to play around with.

Perhaps that's because of the sock that's in that 'long' port-like structure. lol I've read about the internal architecture of these but have never heard them.

The original timewindows (at least) were (are) very nice sounding speakers and also surprisingly efficient. They used nice Philips dome tweeters and were made out of Sonotube (cardboard)! They are essentially a twin transmission line design and produce surprising LF from two 6.5" woofers (does that sound familiar?).

I have a pair which were $10 at a charity fleamarket some years back, butt-ugly but they sound dandy (they shall be restored...someday). Even the SE 2A3 Bottlehead Paramours (3.5 watt monoblocks) drove them adequately; PP EL84 amps are dandy with them -- as are mongo soiled state amps.

Amusing side story: DCM are out of Ann Arbor, MI. It is sometimes claimed that they took their name in honor of Ann Arbor... "Drug Capital of the Midwest". This is likely urban legend, but still pretty amusing.

I have most of the JM Jarre albums. Excellent late night music when you just want to relax with a glass of wine and forget about reality for a while.

I had a set of the original DCM TimeWindow 1's.

They sounded really good for such a small, lightweight, old (70's) speaker. Very musical, wide dispersion, surprising bass.

I sold them a few months ago along with a 15 watt/channel Advent 300 receiver. They sounded great with "just" 15 watts. If I found some again I would buy them again without hesitation, which probably means I should not have sold them in the first place.

The guy I bought them from insisted that DCM stood for DeCriminalize Marijuana. He looked like he might know.

Very nice speakers BUT make sure all the drivers are working and in good shape as on some models the drivers are damn near impossible to get out neatly, some were actually sealed in place and not just screwed in, have had at least 4 pairs of TM's pass thru and all were very nice sounding, at the right price they are a well worth it. And they are still in biz today so far a good run for a company that started in 1974..
