I'm hunting some opinions on this one. I've had an itchy trigger finger on it since I heard of SACD, and now it's discontinued.
It's currently available from 3rd party sellers on Amazon in the 20ish dollar range.
So, I'm wondering, if ToP = Awesome, and Top + Live = Jaw-Droppingly Awesome, does ToP + Live + SACD = I need new pants Awesome?
Thanks in advance for any info!

If you have a good quality cd to begin with that was mastered meticulously, you may not notice much difference. For example, I had the Police's King of Pain song on two different discs, one sacd and one regular. Both were track 11..My player remembers and goes back to the last stop point, so comparing them was easy.. A slight difference in sounstage was all I could pin down.
I notice a significant difference in my old Bob Dylan cd and remastered sacd Bob Dylan. Same thing for old Rolling Stones and the dsd remastered Hot Rocks 67-73
So the definite answer is...it depends.
I'm sold on sacd and buy it first whenever possible. Next is dsd remaster, and regular remaster but it has have reviews on its quality.
Danny Tse (a member of this board) might give a more complete answer...He has a boatload of sacd's. I've salivated over his list several times.
Buy the TOP sacd anyways...they will only get rarer. U can always buy a crap regular cd. (Am I biased?):) -

Sorry, I don't have this title, so can't help you on Tower of Power SACD. However, if you have a SACD player, I'd recommend buying it. It's definitely out-of-print and prices for the SACD will only go up. On top of that, Sony usually does of good job remastering its SACD titles. -
well, I previously purchased the amazon mp3 of this same album, so I'll put up an a/b review once it gets here. The mp3 version sounds good, here's hoping the sacd version is better...
I can always file a claim with amazon if the seller sends me the redbook version. I'm pretty sure that would be covered, but I'm going to read all the fine print before I finalize the order. -

As the seller whether the words "Playable Only On A SACD Player", or something similar, is on the packaging. I'm quite sure the Tower of Power SACD was issued only as a single-layer SACD. -

Keiko sed:
("A couple times I've pulled the trigger on what was supposed to be SACD and had redbooks sent to me instead. I learned to email the seller first and have them confirm the format before buying and saved myself some potential hassles.")

Ebay merchants are famous for not paying attention to their product descriptions and album notes. They clip and paste over and over again and don't realize the album notes say SACD only when what they have is a regular cd.
I've been trying to get The Bangles greatest hits on SACD and 3 times I thought I found one, a query to the seller reveals he didn't "notice" it wasn't a real SACD. So, always check with the seller. I havnt been burned by Amazon. (yet)
