Hello,
Here's a shot of the A77 that I've completed cleaning and modifying. I thought I would show what it looks like all apart before I put it all back together. The circuit boards have all of their new parts and everything is polished and bright.
Enjoy, Ken

Excellent way to spend a Sunday morning. Very nice, Ken!
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it. I have an ESR (equivalent series resistance) meter coming to check out the condition of power supply and motor run caps. I've replaced every resistor and cap that has anything to do with recording and playback. I'm also going to replace the cabling from record/playback heads and input/output connections with Cardas Litz type cable. I found some nice looking .187" female quick disconnect connectors at Advanced Auto, of all places.
Then I'll put everything back together, set the bias, measure the record/playback frequency response and measure wow and flutter. I have a meter that reads tape tension so I can make sure it's correct. Another couple of weeks, maybe.
