My musical adventure for the evening....

It's a great night to be indoors. Serious storms are moving through the Midwest and fortunately we are on the edge and should miss the worst of them...but it is still damp and gloomy outside.

Today I picked up a new CD and will spend the evening with it. I have put myself in the mood. I have on my very colorful (gaudy) Hawaiian shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Sunglasses are on. I am wearing my hat with the shark fin on top. I have made a HUGE blender full of margaritas….

Yes………..I am a………..

Parrothead!

The latest Buffet album came out this week...I now have it in the CDP just waiting for me to push “PLAY”.

That time is near at hand.

medium_1409.JPG

I rarely buy his compilation albums because I have every original album he has made...all of them.

However, Encores is a live acoustic double CD made up from final encore songs recorded during the 2008/2009 tours. Something just a little different.

5. Paradise
6. Do You Know What It Means

Sounds like a blast! Your post seems to indicate it, and the track list is hard to argue with, but is that album a definite 'must have' for fellow parrotheads?

Your question was: is this a “must have” for a Parrothead?

    Maybe.

It doesn’t cover any new ground…while not a compilation per se, you’ve heard them all before. Buffett has turned out a bunch of live concert CDs in the past 7 or 8 years, so nothing unique there. His vocal range and quality is what you would expect for a 63 year old performer with thousands of concerts under his belt. Sound quality of the recording is what you would expect for a set of recordings from 22 different live venues. All in all…one could live without it.

On the flip side…I enjoyed sitting back last evening with my margaritas, listening to these two CDs. There is something to be said for an album consisting of 22 of the last songs of concerts. The crowd and Buffett are pumped up and it showed in the performances. Nothing great from a musical standpoint…but all classic Buffett in good form. Just what one would expect. It was $12 well spent IMO.

Lastly…listening to this CD made me want to be sure I get back to another Buffett concert while both he and I are still alive and able. What more could you ask for from an album? :D

If there is one thing I enjoy, other than BEING at a Live concert, is watching a Live concert on DVD or Blu-Ray rather than just listening to the live concert on cd. Watching the singers' movements and facial expressions and the "ambiance" of the venue is the next best thing to being there.

Since you have all his music cd's do you also have the concert dvd's?

I absolutely can't stand the guy. I tried, even borrowed some concert videos from a friend, got some rum and still couldn't watch it. Oh well, everyones different. May the lightning stay out of your area for this historic night! :)

With 17 inches of rain in TN, you may need speaker spike extensions!! Not sure if Parts Express has 20 inch spikes :-)

Everyone was asking where you were at the last concert. I covered for you.

I am certain there is an artist or group that you (or Mark) think is absolutely wonderful...that I can't stand. I like what I like...regardless of the opinion of others. For instance...Norah Jones seems to be a favorite around here...and I wouldn't waste another second of my time listening to her...unless I have a severe case of insomnia...and then her music puts me out like a light.

I KNOW Buffett is not a particular favorite among the folks here at CP. And that's fine by me.

Then again...that's the way it should be. It would really be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

The "event" was last night. There was a little lightning...but nothing too serious. I thouroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks for the well wishes!

Actually that is middle TN...specifically Nashville. They have had rainfall of historic amounts. 22 inches since Friday night. My nephews live there. They are on high ground thankfully. The Duck river was running at 5' on Friday night. Over 40' today...which is 8' higher than it's previous record high and way over it's flood level. My sister has friends trying to get to Knoxville from Texas. The are stuck in Jackson (outside of Memphis) and have been told the roads to get them Knoxville are not passable at this time.

We have been just on the eastern edge of the storm. Small patches of heavy rain...but NOTHING like middle TN. EPIC stuff going on there.

I feel for the folks in central TN. Nearly 2 ft. of rain over a weekend is just unimaginable. Hundreds of $millions in damage and thousands displaced. Adding to the catastrophe, flood insurance is a rider on most insurance policies.

Great CD for the "casual" Buffett fan, but as you have stated, if you own the entire catalog including live recordings, you've heard it all before.

And, BTW, I also like this CD. :D

Yeah...I know...I made that statement as well. And it is true...except for one track. He covers Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind"...and I'm pretty sure that does not appear on any other recording...live or studio.
