    Great story and pics Shack.

From one amataur photographer to another try to get very low to take the pics. On an upward trajectory. It gets rid of the background discrations and keeps the interest on the subject that you want.

Not trying to take away from your pics. They are great !!!!!

    Just my .02 c

Unfortunately that would not have worked. From my best vantage point, and the topography of the track...shooting up would have brought in more background distractions. I tried several different angles and positions and me shooting from a standing position actually gave me the best chance of reducing background stuff. A lot of these races were only 25-50M so to try to get something from everyone meant shooting from the start and panning until they got past me firing as much as possible. They often moved at different paces so I was trying get as many shots as possible of one (or a group) then move to each person hoping the autofocus would lock on to them. In many of the pictures the expressions and actions of the other kids and folks watching added to the photo IMO. I want unimportant stuff out of the frame...but people work just fine for me.

Thanks for all of the kind words. As many have said, just being around these special individuals is indeed a blessing. I know I was smiling even as I was looking through all of my shots and deciding which ones to post here.

If you enjoyed the photos...next time you have the oportunity to attend a similar event or work with a special needs individual...JUST DO IT! If you can't help out...just go to watch and cheer them on...you won't be sorry.

Not only a blessing Steve, but it really tends to give you a spiritual experience.:)
