Sony SSM-7a's

Hi all...

I picked up a pair of Sony SSM-7a's yesterday. I haven't had a great chance to listen to them, but what I hear, I like. They are extremely well built - 55 lbs for a smaller speaker. The bass isn't huge, but it's quite tight, and very clear, distinct sound. I would love to hear from others who have heard or owned these speakers to hear their opinions and comments on the speakers.

Lets get some photos up. If I can ever find some of those or the larger M9, I will grab them as fast as I can to them to try out. From what I've read, they are real sleepers that sell for much less than they should given the quality.

I have a pair of Sony M9s...The bass is very flat and extended. Stereophile tested it down to 25Hz flat without any sort of boominess. The mid range can have a tiny bit of harshness on some material depending on the amp. The high end does not seem as extended as tested. It's dang heavy at 150lbs each. I wish i had the M9ED which has new drivers and a super-tweeter. It supposed to be noticeably better than the M9 itself. The M9 was $3500/par and the M9ED was $14,000 so it better be improved...

Jon, When I read the reviews of the ED version, it just doesn't seem like it blows them away quite as much as the original M9. In fact, one of the biggest strenghts of the M9, the bass, is apparently not as good with the ED version. I'm pretty sure that I'd be more than happy with the M9 since I can't really hear much above 18kHz anyway.

PS: Let me know if you ever want to get rid of those!
