Looking to upgrade. We have a Adcom dealer nearby - who knew. I've never gave them my attention before. Any opinions?

The older stuff is better, and cheaper.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

Unless you really have to spend your money on new amps I would go with used. Just like buying a car. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

I used to own a GFP 710 pre amp and two GFA 535 amps that I used for bi-amping some Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers. The system sounded really good.I have since moved to tube amplification and Tyler speakers.I have to agree with ben62670,the older Adcom gear sounds better, especially the GFA 535 amps.Of course as always, good sound is what you like, not what someone else tells you they like!!!
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

You can usually find a good GFA-555 for around 300ish. They are built like tanks and perform very well.
I like to listen, tinker, listen and repeat.

they are harsh and prone to making your ears bleed when mixed with certain Polk speakers, some though are Nelson Pass design........but design is not manufacturing, in the end they are a very unrefined amplifier that has power and is normally a first step up from a receiver...........

I started with a gfa-555 on my sda 1c's , but even going used around 300 bucks or even stretching it a little you could find a better amp to start with. And I grew up listening to adcom everything . My dad was an adcom freak . He still upset I went a different way haha

don't cheat yourself, treat yourself, cause no one loves you like you do!:D

Having owned 555's,,I can attest about the brightness with some speakers,,Polks as well,,eventually sold em off,,went Parasound,,then bigger Parasound--then finally tubes,,which is where I prefer to stay.I wish you well in your journey,,most of all,,enjoy.:)
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
