Question about the feedback system here...

Hey everyone, I had a question about the FM's feedback system.

There have been a number of times in the past where I've arranged deals to buy audio gear off from other CP members over PM's, rather than from a for sale or want to buy thread.

Supposing that you make a deal like this, is there any reason that I shouldn't post a want to buy thread for whatever I'm buying, just so that both parties can still get feedback? Many deals here are made "under the table" so to speak, through members conversing over PM, and by doing so, there's no way to get feedback...aside from posting a WTB thread as a formality.

I'm going to be making a purchase soon, but the sale's been arranged over PM. I just figured I'd ask, and see if something like that would be an acceptable way to still get feedback on the sale.

Yea or nay?

Not sure if it was officially "kosher," but I sold a piece of gear here w/o having put it up in the FM--I created a FS thread in the FM that explained that the thread was for selling to the buyer, and was able to use the feedback system afterwards (since you need to reference a for-sale thread link in order to use the feedback system.

If you're asking permission, it doesn't rub me the wrong way.

Hmm...I am going to listen to speakers that I will most likely buy tonight off a forum member (With forum discount). I have also bought and sold stuff with George Grand a number of times with no feedback. Didn't even think about it...what to do?

I don't have a problem with that, in fact, I've done that before. A positive experience should be documented for others to see, regardless of whether a for sale or wanted thread existed prior.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I did that once or twice. I think it's perfectly acceptable. How else does one get some feedback. In fact there have been quite a few "behind the scene" sales for me. I would say if you are meeting face to face and exchanging cash, since that is pretty much a fool proof transaction, that it's not really what the feedback system is for.

I bought/sold stuff from our local group (RAS) and I would never look for feedback for those transactions. But I have bought/sold overseas which involved proper packing, paypal and proper item descriptions, so that is helpful even though Mike and I are friends. Dave, Doug and Aaron and I have done some deals but that doesn't really qualify, IMO even though they are CP members.

Which reminds me I need to leave some feedback for a recent sale.

I agree. I have made several transactions here that never made it to feedback because they were not via a FS thread. I have no problems with it and don't think there are any rules against it besides it does help a member get noticed especially one that has little or no feedback.

I don't see anything wrong with it either.

I almost did the same thing once myself, but when your feedback gets into the double digits on CP, it's good enough IMO to vouch for the seller or buyer, without worrying about the occasional "lost" deal that doesn't get official feedback for the lack of a Flea Market thread, so I wouldn't bother with such things anymore.

Can the mods comment if this is a problem?

    Thanks,

Seems like we're all on the same page here for the most part.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Sounds like this would be perfectly alright...can we get a confirmation from a mod one way or the other?

By the way, if anyone's curious, I'm getting ready to buy a pair of Peerless Monitor 7B's in the next couple weeks. That's the transaction in question.

Curiosity killed the cat. I love my 7A's very much, and I've gotta A/B them with the 7B's. The 7A's used MW6500's, and the 7B's used MW6502's. I'm very curious to find out if one sounds better than the other. I've heard some people claim that the 6502's have slightly better bass response.

Whichever of the two pairs sounds best, will stay in rotation in my 2 channel rig. The "loser" will be relegated to garage duty, with the 2 channel rig I'm slowly putting together for it.

    Reported

All of your posts have now been reported, and I've also reported each of my posts in this thread.:p

My deepest apologies for getting off topic. Thank you for reporting me...I deserved that. I think I should also be tarred and feathered, then lashed with a bull whip about 20-25 times...in the face. I'll be wearing my Daisy Dukes during the tar and feathering, naturally.;) We'll get some video posted afterwords.

Now I'm going to have to report this post too, because it's also off topic.:p

I deserve the ban hammer for this one...lol

I think what curt has in mind in his original post is fine and dandy, and I've actually had to do something similar when I listed several items in one post so that the different buyers could all get proper credit.

I do however, disagree with h9's thoughts on face-to-face deals. What if some member leaves you stuck waiting for an hour or more before the deal goes down? Even if you didn't wait out the whole time, you still wasted an hour for the round trip. If the other member shows up eventually maybe he gets a neutral feedback or something.
