He is pickup only. I live in PA and if I lived closer all 3 sets would be in my house. As is with the audio industry, a lot of the good stuff seems to be in CA. O'well.

he's still got them. I asked him a bunch of questions about them as it would be about a 3-4 hour drive one way for me to get them and I'm not going to waste it if they are not as well taken care of as I would want them to be.

They are the non "Plus". That is even better. The "Plus" is a downgrade to the original's. They downgraded the cross overs and took out the pot adjustments and they handle less wattage.

Here's what this guy said. not sure what to do as I would probably offer him 500 or so but I'm worried about a few things. He was doing them off a AVR. I was going to see if there is anyone on the forum that would be willing to stop by and at least see if these things are in as good of condition as he says.

    Thisi s what he wrote:
"I'm not the original owner....there in great shape the only thing that is missing is the felt...i had them hooked to a marantz receiver for about a hour i never turned them up to loud cuz i live in a town house..and i friend said under powering the could damage them..so them been on hooked since i bought them..I'm in to car-audio so i always heard to hooked the speakers or subs to the same kinda amp..i can send you more pic's tomorrow when i get off work..so i was going to get a carver amplifier and preamp etc..but i bought a Bose system instead
if you like them... what are you willing to pay or trade for them??"

he wants 800 to a 1000 because he saw the ones on ebay listed for that much (even though his ad says he wants half of the ones listed there) He has a guy that wants to trade him a handgun for them I guess that he really wants so IDK.

$800 would be ok if they are in excellent condition. Unfortunately these speakers are very delicate, so it's a tough call. Just drive there and inspect them. Worse case, you have a nice relaxing road trip :)

yeah. I might try and still do it, I guess he really wants the handgun as it seems like he's trying to do the whole who's going to give me more for them type of game which I don't like playing. he said the handgun is worth 1000 so he's talking like I would have to bring more to the table than that. ALso he had them hooked up to a marantz AVR for power.

$1000 is too much unless they are PERFECT in every way. Going rate for AL-IIIs is average $700, upper end of really nice ones I've seen sell for is $1100, MAX. I've seen some go for $300, but that ain't gonna happen~

I'm betting if you showed up with $700 CASH, he'd change his tune...

I sent him back another email and stated that he says in his ad half of what the others, so I was going to see if he would take 700 or so. I just wouldn't be able to get down there this weekend and it would be next when I could.

$700 is a good offer. If you go to see them take an amp and some cables and a CD of piano music. Don't try to judge the speakers using his AVR.

Play it loud and listen very carefully to the ribbons. Put your ear up close and play the same track over and over and make sure this no buzzing. If you hear buzzing a ribbon repair most likely will be in your future and you will be looking at a $800+ bill.

can't stupid guy sold them on me, which is a whole nother story. Lets just say if you work for an audio place that doesn't take trade ins, yet say you got them in on trade and sell them personally, your manager might want to know. :)

I have a pair of AL-III Plus speakers in the Philly area that I would like to sell. They are inherited so I do not know much about them, but if interested make a reasonable offer. I heard them operate at the home they were in but have not hooked them up since I got them.

I also have a Carver HR-895 that went with them.

If you know anyone interested let me know.

ummm shipping those might be a little tough, so I'm going to have to pass probably unless the polk train could help me out to get them somewhere close to the Midwest. lol

    They are ALL Amazings:

    Original Carver Amazing Loudspeakers
    Silver Edition Amazing Loudspeakers
Amazing Loudspeaker-Platinum Edition (& Mk IV)
    Amazing Loudspeaker-III

The Platinums are the top dogs. A pair sold on ebay today for over $2k, but they usually go for $1k-$1.2k.

I think the AL-IIIs image the best due to their narrow waveform "wings", but the multi-woofer models have better bass....
