    Onkyo TX-8555

100 watts/channel, x-over is at 80Hz (confirmed by Onkyo) and under $200.00 when purchased refurbished @ accessories4less.com (Onkyo authorized)

If this is just for 2-channel, why not drive the sub from speaker level inputs and use the sub x-over to integrate with your fronts?

I can't imagine that there would be any "scary LFE" to worry about for music for your mains and the sub x-over would offer infinitely better control over fine tuning the x-over freq.

It sure would open up more possibilities for a good deal on a used receiver.

It's not a "receiver" exactly...but the Parasound NewClassic Model 2100 is a 2 channel pre-amp, that has built in bass management.

The Outlaw reciever also has analog bass management. Might be a bit more $$ than you want to spend though.

NAD C720BEE. Sub output with fixed cut-off at 100hz IIRC. You can get refurbed units pretty cheap if you can't find a used one. Great sounding 2 ch receiver, and yes I own one.

subwoofers only have a low-pass filter, not a high pass which means im still sending LF information to the fronts which pretty much ruins the idea of having a 4-way system. correct me if im wrong but the psw10 sub from polk has no high pass correct? i have a receiver, but its just straight 2ch unfiltered sound, i really would rather not buy a new receiver if there is another fix for this. oh and i saw someone mention a 2ch preamp, i didnt know it was even possible to get those these days, only pre-amps i have been able to find cost me 700 dollars minimum and are full of all kinds of bells and whistles i dont need they are built for surround sound and digital audio processing. ive been wanting to set up a pre-amp type system for while now and use a seperate amplifier but have had no luck finding a pre-amp.

atm i am using my 7ch receiver for 2ch stuff because it has an active crossover. would like to put it back into my living room haha

Thats what I do, let the sub carry the bass and the fronts carry the mids and treble.

Again - if this is for music - what is the fretting and hand wringing all about for sending full audio signals to your mains?

In the ancient distant misty past of yore for 2-channel, folks were happy and rejoiced at the joyous sound they could get from their 'full range' speakers.

The scary LFE Monster had not yet been born to instill fear of straining their poor amplifiers or subject their bookshelf woofers to the woes of burdensome bass.

    [tongue in cheek guys...:p;):D]

actually most people are afraid of LFE ruining their bookshelfs even when in reality this isnt an issue, i used to have a 7 channel system used for movies and i drove the LFE through my bookshelfs and it wasnt an issue.

Your bookshelves will only play down to what they are capable of.....I'm sure you were missing a lot of low end with them.

Why not get a pre that has dual rca outputs and send one set to your amp and the other to your sub?

yes i know i was, but the point is people are constantly scared they will destroy their bookshelves with LFE. and if anybody would give me a link to where i can buy a 2ch pre-amp that would be great, i have been trying to find one for some time now.
