Im new here and finally bought a decent set of speakers in my rookie opinion. I got the Acoustic Research AR9's (the newer ones), and have no idea what Im supposed to do with them. Probably makes you wonder why I have them I guess.
Anyway, I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-55txi, and its rated at 100 wpc. These speakers have a peak of 250w. There are two sets of terminals on the back of each speaker. I am pretty sure ones for the sub and ones for the mids and highs, and there must be a crossover in there somewhere. The nominal power is 20w, and I dont know the RMS watts for them.
So, what do I need to get?
-two mono amps?
-one two channel?
-use my receiver? (probably not?)
-????
Im open to ideas, as I have none.
Thanks.

I've never seen the ar9 except in pictures...how about attaching a photo of your binding posts?
Many speakers have two sets of binding post nowadays even without a powered subwoofer. Are there shorting tabs between the two sets of binding posts? If there are then, leave them there and just hook up your speaker wires to one set of the posts. People remove the shorting tab between the posts to biwire or biamp a speaker..Save that for later..get them working 1st.
I hope you get a better/more complete answer from somone with your type of speaker.
Time to go to google and look for a manual..
Good luck -
That would be the best advice I could give too virtual, without being able to see what he is talking about anyway. I don't have much experience with towers that have built in powered subwoofers and not sure how they "hook in" to the mix either.

It's not that I'm insensitive, I just don't care.. -
Yeah, guess I forgot to mention that they arent actually powered subs. The AR1s have that sunfire amp in them, but mine just have speakers. I will throw in a picture later.
