Hi ,
I have thought long and hard as to if i should mention Acculab speakers again as i have seen the turmoil that it has once been involved in . I may not be that old but in my time have had a very broad exposure to what i have noticed a lot of you classify as quality speakers . About 6 years ago i was looking to purchase a stereo system with the single use being music . I am myself not a fan of listening to music through surround sound receivers , please remember that this is my opinion and we are all entitled one . I auditioned a lot of different speakers up to the $3ooo mark and although there were some that stood out above others they still lacked what i was looking for . The father of a friend of mine who has some expensive Vandersteen speakers suggested i see someone he knew that was selling some of his old parts after upgrading . After explaining what i was after he suggested that i have a listen to a pair of speakers that he had used as monitors in his recording studio . He connected them to an unknown valve amplifier and after about half an hour i paid him and left with a pair of Acculab S12 Digital Reference Loudspeakers . I made sure that i did not skimp when it came to RCA leads or speaker wire and attached them to a Marantz 2226B receiver and can not be happier with them considering the whole system including cables cost $5oo . I currently have this attached to my Mac Pro and use them with Logic and am totally satisfied . I know that there are better speakers out there but for my purposes they are fine , i only hope to upgrade to a valve amp . I have not been able to find any information on these speakers other than they were made by RtR and not a lot of people like them . I would be interested in any information about them or even in purchasing another pair if any one knew of the whereabouts of some .

You are correct they were RtRs cheap line of speakers made in the late 70s through the mud 80s. RtR was building very high end electrostatic speakers at the time and they were selling the acculab stuff to the big box stores as a quick cash builder to fund there high end projects such as the RtR DR1 along with many others. They branded these speakers as acculab so they would not tarnish the RtR name in the 70s However they kind of destroyed there high end reputation in 1980 when they started building the series 2, 3, 4 and 5 models
