Very nice setup. I've never noticed before how much those Vandersteen's resemble SDA-1C's. I want your turntable.

Lol...thanks. They were free too! Took some foam from work and cut two slots in each to guide the R & L channels. Very slight difference in sound...it adds resolution which makes some recordings sound better while making other recordings sound a tad sterile.

Ha! No ****. It kills the early reflections coming off the glass screen. It does wonders for the image focus. If your as unlucky as I am and have a giant **** TV in between your speakers you should give it a try. I bet you'll always do critical listening with a blanket over your TV!

That is audio **** for sure! Sorry you have to live with that wall behind the couch, I used to have the same situation. Its really hard to deaden without deadening too much and making you uncomfortable.

Yeah I know what you mean. There is about 8" between the rug and the couch and figure another 8" from my head to the back of couch. I'm about a foot and a half from the wall...still not nearly far enough. The rug helped alot. Without it, the image was a mess and the sound was fatiguing. I still have some energy coming from the corner behind me/next to rug. I'm considering an absorption panel mounted at 45 deg.

Unfortunatley my in my room my couch is up against the back wall. The couch is overstuffed and I have wall-to-wall carpeting in the room. I take some throw pillows and line them up across the top of the couch to tame the splash back off that back wall. It worked out pretty well except my wife keeps taking them back to place on the couch on the living room where they belong . . . UGH! Women! :D

The rug provides great diffusion and also looks great. Where did you get the bar that holds the rug? I'm looking for the same.

Its a bright star audio sand box. Custom made for a VPI TNT HRX...there's a separate top peice for the motor assembly. Doesn't quite work for the scout's motor so I'm going to make a new top so the motor is isolated from the rest of the plinth.

The rod holding the carpet is made of solid maple and I think was picked up at an arts n crafts store...michaels?

Oh my, you just made my heart skip a beat! BTW do you know what kind of sand is being used in the sand box?

No clue. It was my friend's rack. He sold his HRX for a (heart will stop) grand prix audio table. I do know the sand is very fine.

Heres some more info on system:

The rack legs are filled with lead shot.

The PS audio power conditioner is also on a bright star audio sand box.

All components are resting on black diamond racing cones. Mk3 for CD player and Mk4 for amp and preamp.

Not sure if you guys noticed, but there is an absorption panel on the side wall. Its a GIK Acoustics 242 panel.

Oh and most importantly...gold lion kt88s in amp and tele smooth plates and amperex bugle boys in the pre!

The reason I was asking about the sand is that a lot of people just buy regular (seashore) type sand and it has a propensity to gather from the air any moisture, especially if you live in an area with high humidity, and then it gets moldy which is hard to get rid of. Reptile sand is the best in these applications as it repels moisture.

Black Diamond Racing Cones are execellent. I use the MK4s under my turntable in conjuction with Isol-Pads and they really are impressive for isolaton and add a nice bit of warmth to the sound . I would have them under all my compenents especially the BDR pucks but for the now the cost is prohibitive. I use Isol-Pads from Quest for Sound under all the rest of my gear which do a really good job of isolating the components for air borne and rack vibrations as well as resonance but I would love to get the BDRs and use them in conjunction with the Isol-Pads as it really does a nice job on my TT.

You've got a really nice rig going there Bro.:)

    Very nice looking!

I have the BDR pits under my speakers and subs and they are great piece for decoupling.

These were the only pieces I've ever bought where my wife questioned my sanity :D She couldn't understand why I paid so much for hockey pucks!

I had some of those Vandy's! I have loved Vandy since they introduced the 2C! (the vandy 2 and 3 represent top notch music for a reasonable price compared to the competition.)

It is a persian style rug, but was it hand made by an Iranian?...No. It's woven wool and wasn't cheap! :)
