Hi guys
Which are the best sounding monitor 10's I have noticed they went through many changes through the years Did they actually get better as time progressed. I have a pair of the orginal 10's that I need to rebuild I might as well build them to the "best" specs
Thanks

I like prefer early Monitor Series versions with Peerless tweeters. :)

I've heard and read the same...10A's they are referred to, I was also told that there are 10a's that are 'earlier' and more desirable than other 10a's...not sure exactly why.

To me its all about the tweeter, the most desirable being the 'Peerless' and the SL2500 in the later model series 2 monitors. The least desirable being the SL1000 and the SL2000.
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

Hmmm...maybe I should take the Peerless out of my 10's and put them in the 7's ?

Peerless aren't a drop-in replacement for the sl2000. The tweeter cut out is a different size, and the crossover values aren't the same.

The drop-in replacement for the sl2000 is the rdo194.

    ^^^ what he said...

    nice score.

So is that diagram a peerless tweeter -- I'm guessing that my monitor 10s have peerless tweeters then if that is so.

    :)

from the sounds of this and other threads the peerless tweeters are preferred over the SL1000s, 2000s and 2500s

Arguably, they got (and I am being diplomatic because this is the Polk Audio company's forum, and I am sincerely grateful to the company for still being a serious loudspeaker company and for hosting the forum!) less good.

Here is an original "Monitor Series Model 10", progenitor of the Monitor 10A. The former has a single fuse (for the tweeter), the Peerless silk dome tweeter sans the center hole later added by Polk to these drivers, and an uncoated paper PR. The original 10 or 10A are arguably the "best" versions... but there was nothing really bad about the later ones...
