Sounds like these are just ridiculous people.. When I lived in an apt.. I knew to expect that there will likely be sound from neighbors at least til 9pm on weekday and possibly after 10 on a weekend. IMO if its not excessive during normal activity hours you just need to STFU and deal with it. I know this doesn't work for people who work the night shift, but if you work the night shift you should understand that most of the world is awake when you are asleep so you learn to tune it out..

Move. I'll never live in an apartment again. Sorry to hear about your problem, but many of us have been there before.

I like the idea of recording them yelling at each other. I recorded a neighbor's dog barking near my bedroom window every morning at 5:30 am and, after a quick edit with Audacity, played back the dog barking at suitable levels out my bedroom window thru some carefully placed LSi9's....

The dogs now live on the other side of the property.

    Good luck!

without reading anything but the opening post, i'd suggest getting out of apartment living. i've dealt with neighbors who don't play "loud" music, but it bugs just the same. 9 pm isn't bad, but past that, some have kids they put down early. i've almost had to throw fists over this stuff.

not everyone is in a position to buy a house. still, it's a thing called respect. if they bug you with the yellin', then they too ought to get out of apartment living.

apartment living is impossible, for all parties involved.

    LOL

My apartment neighbor is a girl who shares a wall with me, and she's always complaining about my music, and I really don't play it all that loud (rarely do i go past 9 o'clock on my 50wpc integrated). But then I hear her listening to music all the time. Women; such hypocrites lol ;)

I try not to piss her off because she's the girlfriend of one of my good buddies, but she's getting on my nerves.

I just don't get it. When they have complained I wasn't even using a sub. there have been times I did use a sub on some movies later at night and they never said a word so its odd. Last night I was just listening on the 2 channel system when they came, so there was no sub that was bothering them so IDK.

The one time though when he "heard me talking loudly" he stated that he didn't like my lanaguge as I swore and used a naughty word (they are very hardcore church going people). I think they have more of a problem with that than anything I think is when I swear and they get offended.

Next time I just think I'm going to open the door and shove a pair of ear plugs out to them, that or I might just have to start talking very loudly at myself and swear up a storm.

Here's what i suggest. Intentionally back up your toilet. Give them a shitstorm.

The simple fact is that apartment buildings have a tendency to carry and in some cases exaggerate bass frequencies. With current music and HT recordings emphasizing bass frequencies it's going to travel. The brain will naturally become irritated when hearing these signals without the additional frequencies. In all honesty, you have two reasonable choices, get a good set of cans, or rent a home or townhouse (end unit). This is a battle you won't win, and will never enjoy music/HT the way you want.

They complained about voices at a normal conversation level & about someone walking? Give me a break. These are the type of people who you will never please. If you're playing music at a reasonable volume at a reasonable hour, tell them to pound sand.

My GF's downstairs neighbors listen to the TV on "deaf" levels constantly. Part of the reason she has a KEF/NAD entertainment system now. Some days it's like a competition. She doesn't even listen to it that loud at all. But they keep turning the TV up when she's watching TV.

They did it once when I was there trying to watch "Strange Brew" with her (she never saw it! Can you believe it?!) So I stopped the movie, whipped out the MP3 player, plugged it in to the AUX port and started playing Cutty Ranks's Greatest Hits. I let it go for like 4 songs. Apparently, they were banging on the door for 3 of the songs and I didn't hear them until a break in the song.

    i hate neighbors.

Chris, there's a nice house for rent about 4 miles from me for relatively cheap i think. Interested? I'd go grab it, but my lease isn't up until September.

Hell, move here and check out my apartments. Concrete slabs FTW. Nobody can hear me.

In the end, this is all you can do to keep both parties "happy", even though I'm not as happy listening to my Sennheisers because no matter how good cans are, they just don't match loudspeakers for a true listening experience. My lease is out in 4.5 months and I'm moving into a house for my last year at UCF with 2 friends that like music as much as I do and won't complain; I can't wait :D

Tell them "Welcome to Apartment life" and slam the door in their face. If they want absolute peace and quiet, they need to buy some acreage; you get what you pay for...

While I agree it takes manners/common sense from all sides, some people (a-holes) are just intolerant of anything, and don't want their little environment disturbed at all---tuff ****, I say.

Talk to your apartment manager and see if they have a quiet hours policy on the books. Cover all your bases first--and if you are in the right, and being reasonable with your volume levels/time of day--let'm call the police.

Some people would **** if they were hung with a new rope.

If I could move and find a job that would pay me about the same (once you figure in the cost of living ect changes to where I would move to) I would gladly move to a different city. I enjoy moving acutally especially to a completely different city would be fun. I would just have to find a job which well right now is a pain, and two I was hoping to maybe go back to school in the fall and have my current employer pay for it. I was just going to get an associates degree for accounting (as I guess for the job I want with the company the into accounting courses were not good enough that I took and tell me this after the fact).

You've gotten to the point where you need to tell him to talk to the landlord or the police. Once they come over, and if the music really isn't that loud (as they'll ask to come into their place to hear it for themselves), then that's pretty much it. You'll be bitter enemies and he will probably find a way to get back at you if he can.... which reminds me...

First off I do respect most religions, just not religious fanatics..

I would tell him to pray to his god for patience and understanding. Just try and not get into a religious argument. I mean that's just gonna be nasty. You don't want religious fanatic nasty, that ****'ll stick around like **** on a blanket.

    Ummmm....

Just a question for the OP. You are having neighbor issues and you are looking for a set of speakers (SRS or AL III) that will have them come completely unhinged if you ever turn them on much less listen. I am only looking for some understanding is all. I may have a lead on a set of the Carvers for you. I will shoot a PM your way if they pan out.

I thought I posted this but just want to let you know my intentions

I was looking to have these at my place for only about a month probably. My girlfriend lives at a different place and is moving into a two bedroom and said I could put a system over there if I wanted to. so that way which ever speakers I would get would have better room to breath, rather than being cramed into one here.
I would still have my RTA 15 rig at my place, as well as the HT but then have one over at her place.

Sorry, but I wouldn't be doing that unless you have firm plans to marry this girl. That is, unless you don't mind loosing the stuff if she flakes out, changes the locks, and decides to keep or sell your gear. Its happened, to people on this forum in fact.

Unless you stumble on a super deal, I'd just wait until you get a place of your own to house them. Actively seeking them though?

    Second the notion.

BTW try this: Next time when they knock be polite and ask if you can come down for a sec to see how bad it is. Two things will happen; they'll say no or say yes. If they say no, then say call the police next time and bid them a nice day (they are lying or the place is meth lab). If they say yes, then you might have an issue. Bass frequencies are clingy unique buggers and could be infecting them.

Btw, are you sure you didn't piss them off in the past and they are using this excuse to mess with you? Are you sleeping with her? Those loud arguments late night about her having a "headache" etc.

Anyways, go down and actually listen to it if they say yes. Like a crappy Bose reflex system you might find that your bass leaks down there. I had a neighbor 1 floor below and then 2 places over who could hear my music bass in her place, but the downstairs neighbor REALLY could not hear it, I checked.

Meaning it has to do with the wall construction and most importantly, load walls and beams. They can transfer and amplify lower frequencies which your Polks most defiantly have right? ;)

Don't always discount others but also investigate like the fuzz.

Yeah, you might have to move to enjoy your music if it is true that your bass is coupling to the downstairs. In the interim you could put them some folded towels and/or polystyrene to help decouple them. You won't like it, but less knocking.

Oh, and when they yell, just go down and ask them to quiet down as you can't hear Rush Limbaugh yelling over them. That'll confuse em.

Good luck and let me know how it works out.
