Hello fellow polk folk. I just have a quick question! I currently have the following setup in the mail:

1x Onkyo SR-TX707
2x Polk Monitor 70's
2x Polk Monitor 60's
1x PolkCS2

Will the 707 do a decent job of driving these speakers? From what I can tell the 707 will be more than adequate, but how much power can you really pump into the Monitor 70's? What kind of receiver would really saturate something like the M70's? Thanks!
2 x Monitor 70's
2 x Monitor 50's
1 x CS20
1 x Onkyo SR-707
1 x Panasonic AE-4000 Projector

The Onkyo 707 can run all of that to reasonable levels but the M70s can handle more power than almost 'any' receiver' can dish out. The more juice you give them the better they sound....especially in 2 channel stereo....it's not quite as important for HT if you have a good sub? Are you going to run a sub? I don't see any up there?

If you run a sub and cross over at 80hz for all speakers you should have plenty of power for a small to medium sized room with that Onkyo for now..But the upgrade bug WILL bite you at some point. Fortunately the 707 has pre-outs and you can just add power amps at that point.

I have no sub at the moment. Once all this gear arrives I'm planning on getting set up and decide from there where I want to go with upgrades. Sub was my planned next upgrade, and I had been thinking going with a Polk one but I was disabused of this notion after doing some reading on the subject.

From there you'd suggest adding amps to pump another 100 - 120 watts per channel to the 70's?

    Thanks for the response cnh!

I'm used my onkyo 706 to drive my RTi8's for a while, and it worked well. I think you'll be happy with the way they sound. If down the road you want to improve the sound quality of your 70's you always have the option of adding a separate amp, but the 707 by itself will do a good job! I'm very happy with my 706.
