A new HHgreg store just opened up here in the Scranton Pa. area. It is in the old circuit city store. Does anyone know about this outfit. I never heard of them. I checked them out this past Sunday and they seemed like a no frills best buy. They sell TV's, audio and appliances. I noticed they sold mostly bottom end Polk, Yamaha and other name brand equipment. Nothing I got too excited about. I wish there was a high end store around here. I guess for me it's still shopping thru the internet if I want something higher end. Anyone have one of these stores in your neighborhood. I am curious about your impressions of the store.

While some people talk nicely about HHGregg, I am not one of them. I will never set foot in one again. Never a good experience with them.

I've had nothing but great experiences with HHGregg. There are fantastic deals to be had during their annual tent days sale. In the past I've scored a NIB CSi5 for $100 and a NIB 60" Sony SXRD for $1,250.

I was able to haggle down the price of my DLP about 5 years ago there...where as Best Buy would not.

I bought a refrigerator and a freezer from them. Best price. They have great prices on TV's also. If you know what you want, then you'll probably get the best deal. If you expect some kind of advice from a knowledgeable sales person, well.....

They are a step up from Best Buy. They actually train their employees. Unless I am mistaken it is still a privately held company in Indianapolis that has over the years increased their footprint. I worked for them in college for about a year. They are willing to make deals. Normally they have a 2x a year sale that gives you Employee Pricing (part-time employee). They will push extended warranties like no other, but then again i think i got paid about 30% on those when i sold one . . . . so they have a good reason to do that.

I have bought a flatscreen and a few appliances from them. Each time I was able to haggle the price. However, that is all I would consider buying from them.

I've found the best prices at HH when I'm looking for various items, but I don't particularly like the store because the employees obviously work on commission. They flock to you as soon as you walk in and hover around you while there. I will also say I stayed away from them for years because I went in there when I was 18-19 or so with a friend who was trying to buy a very nice camcorder, but we received little to no service because I think we looked like we didn't make enough money to worry about. Still good prices and it's hard to ignore that little fact.

Horrible experience with them in Atlanta,,they tried to pass off used/refurbished gear as new--my brother bought a receiver from them,,as we were unpacking I noticed something sticky ,,,it was the touch up paint on the unit,,left my thumbprint, and you could smell it as well,,, buyer beware,if you do buy--check it out thoroughly---seriously.

Same here! They were about $200 cheaper on a TV I bought there a few years back than Best Buy was. And BB would not match much less beat their price. Although I do hate walking in there cause the sales people are like vultures on a fresh kill when they see someone walk through the front door.

    Picture Phil Hartman.......

Many years ago when I lived in Indiana I was in HH Gregg's to buy a TV. The sales guy walked up chomping on his gum, put his hands on his hips parting his tweed jacket and said, "So, you're looking for a TV for the big game tonight, eh?" Yes, that was his practiced salesman approach in all it's cheesy glory. I've noticed 2 of their stores about to open in Maryland but I doubt I'll shop there. I just cannot get the horrifying picture out of my mind of the ugly twin boys who did their commercials back then. (shudder) I think they were part of the Gregg family and are likely rich as hell now.

If you ask me, there's no real difference between them or any big box electronic retailer. Gregg's is just sucking up market share vacated by Jerkme City.

the difference is...they haggle on price while most others dont.

bring in a competitors ad gurantee they beat price....granted other than tvs theres not much im that interested in a department/big box store anyway

I never tried audio classics. I may have to check them out. Might have to take a road trip. Thanks.

The one thing about HHgregg opening here is that it is direct competition to best buy. It should keep the prices in check. Either way both stores carry mostly low end audio equipment which doesn't much interest me.

They are the only electronics store left that deals with you. Bestbuy is dead to me. I only go in there for video games.
