SR124 vs SR124-DVC

Can someone tell me what the differance is between the 2???
I'm assuming DVC stands for dual voice coil. If that's the case - what does it really mean???

I'm thinking of upgrading my 12'' DB sub and yap, def staying with Polk.

    DVC can run at 1 ohm 124 can run at 2 ohms correct me if im wrong anyone. if you bridge 2 sr124 it will run at 2 ohms. If you bridge 2 sr124-DVC it will run at 1 ohm barring amp is stable at 1ohm. wiring both subs in parralell.

    It is not that simple as sensitivity is different... It seems that dvc has higher.

    Only if the voice coils were ran in parallel would the dvc sub beat the svc in sensitivity. But yes that's one reason to opt for a dvc sub.

    Basically a dual voice coil and single voice coil are fairly close to the same performance wise, excluding sensitivity and power required.. You mainly pick a dual voice coil to maximize your amp power. Typically you want the speaker load ohms to match the amp's lowest stable ohm load. As most sub amps can handle a 2ohm load with ease and since you only have 1 sub you'd get more power using a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub ran in parallel to present a 2 ohm load.

    Dual voice coils are especially useful for multi sub installs. You can run them in a series/parallel configuration as well to get closer to the lowest load the amp can handle.

    For me i wanted to run 2 subs. I knew i would have an amp capable of handling a 1ohm load. To reach a 1 ohm load this required 2 speakers each with dual 4 ohm voice coils with all 4 ran in parallel. 2 svc subs would have been a 2 ohm load in parallel and wouldn't achieve what i wanted. With all 4 voice coils in parallel i get exactly 1 ohm which i wanted.

    So for the op it would be best to get the DVC sub and wire it in parallel for a 2 ohm load. Virtually any amp can handle a 2 ohm load. Polk's PA1100.5 5 channel amp says it's stable to 1 ohm for the sub channel for instance.

    All it means is you can run one as a 4 ohm load and another as a 2 ohm load. No performance difference. Theyre just offered so give you more amp and wiring options.

    In this whole car audio world one thing i never understood (and still don't lol) is ohms.
    I've read a lot of articles which make some sense to me but never to the point where i can say "I GOT IT!!!"

    With that said - what amps would best suit both SR124 and SR124DVC??

    fyi - I currently have PA600.1 powering my DB sub and PA400.1 that used to power the same sub but is now in the basement collecting dust simply because i don't really have use for it since PA600.1 took his job. If i get 124 or 124dvc - is there any use out of those amps or should i look for something else?

    Hi Vital!
    Let me try to explain that Ohm thingy for you. Excuse me if I use some wrong words, I'm not that good at english...
    One day you decide to take a bath in the bathtub. You open the water faucet, and the water i poring out, right? If you open it just a little, it is just dripping, and fully open it really flushes out, into the tub. If you look at it this way: The valve in the faucet is the resistance. The more resistance, the smaller the flow of water is. That valve can you call the Ohms. Tiny opening is a high resistance. Fully open, is low resistance. Fully closed, the resistance is so big that it represent a switch being turned off. How big the inner hole in the tubing is representing the current, in Ampere. And finally the waterpresshure from your supplier is represents the voltage. The more presshure, the higher speed is like higher voltage. So if you think of the current, the flow of water and thje voltage, the waterpresshure and imagine multipying these, you get the power in watts.

    That's a good way to look at it. The only thing holding an amp back from making 100% output is the load you put on it. The amps that say they're only stable at 4 ohms doesn't mean that they can't make power beyond that, they could and in fact they would if the load holding them back wasn't enough. The problem is that the amp isn't built to withstand that much and things will start melting.
