I have the little Sony tuner and the HD is nice for some station and awful on others. It seems to depend on the stations bit rate/broadcast quality.
The Sony pulls in stations better than most other tuners but one of my favorite stations is a local college station and they broadcast in HD. Most of the time it sounds as if they are broadcasting with the levels to high in the studio and the music and DJ's voices sound annoyingly over saturated. The clean quality of the HD signal seems to make this over saturation worse than what you hear in analog, like in my truck.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
HD radio is the equivalent of MP3. It Sucks! The reception area is much smaller, the sound quality is not as good as analog FM can be. The whole side band broadcast has screwed up the sound quality on the analog stations. It can't go away fast enough for me.
By the way HD radio is not High Definition although many people (including the stations) mistakenly use this term. HD radio is supposed to stand for Hybrid Digital. It is no where near CD quality. Now good analog FM from a station that doesn't compress and over modulate can sound nearly as good as a CD.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -

My brief experiences testing out HD-tuners...yielded VERY similar results. If you live in a more rural area--good luck finding even ONE station that broadcasts in HD. A waste of time for me...unless I plan to put up my own 'satellite' to catch all the signals and return them to my house?

We have a few in my area, but I have not been all that impressed. However, I don't listen to them that often. I hate commericals, my spoiling DVR has made me hate advertisments. What's funny is my little girl can't believe we have to watch commericals during live sports broadcast.Anthem D2v

I have a Polk I Sonic, and think the HD sound is great. PBS, WABE Plays," Prarrie Home Companion". Sunday AM, with the paper and lots of coffee, life is good here in Atlanta....Some final words,

I looked into this a while back and considered running one to my DAC. But then I got mixed opinions, and learned that the stream is not much more than 96kbps in many areas. So I stuck with my FM antenna and it sounds great. For Sale 2019:
