What would you have done?

So, Friday night around 11, I'm sitting there watching the Dirty Harry marathon, when I'm suddenly startled by a loud noise out front. It turns out the friend of my neighbor's kid thought it would be a good idea to impress his friends by doing a big smokey burnout in his Mustang Cobra.
A little background on this neighbor. They moved in last August. I talk to them on occasion, & they are nice people. They previously lived in a fairly rural area. You know how every neighborhood has the one house, that when you walk by you say to yourself, "boy I'm glad I don't live next to them". Well, yeah that's them.
Random stupid stuff like this happens every so often. I usually brush it off, but in the past I have nicely told them that, hey that's not very considerate in a neighborhood where the houses are 20 ft apart. Well this time I'd had enough. I went outside & chewed them out pretty good. Being rather angry I don't remember exactly what I said, but it was something alongs the lines of this being a neighborhood, not a drag strip , & you don't live out in the boonies anymore, along with a few four letter words thrown in for good measure.
We live in a nice neighborhood. Nonsense like this just doesn't happen around here, at least not until they moved in. From conversations I've had with other neighbors, they are pretty much disliked by everyone, although no one else seems to have the guts to speak up. My wife thinks I should've taken a more tackful approach. I say I've done that in the past & they just don't seem to get it. Frankly, as long as they respect me, I don't care if they like me. So, did I go overboard?

You yelled at them, I don't know that that can be "overboard." You could have called the police or done something rash like slashed their tires. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I know. Especially when they were doing something that was obviously not safe or smart. Especially on a Sunday evening when most people are at home with their families so cars line the streets with people all around both indoors and outdoors.
I'm more inclined to focus on the fact that the word "tackful" does not exist in the English language and judging by context, he meant tactful.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Call the cops next time. Burnouts generally are illegal on public streets because it poses a danger to any and all. You can lose control of your car, or blow out and toss debris which can hurt or kill someone. Video tape it for good measure.Main Surround -

That prolly will be your best bet to get the law involved. Take it from somebody who's learned the hard way about handling your own problems just gets YOU put in jail. If you dont wanna take that approach you could always pull a Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino and beat their ****!!!!
