Can my RTi's compete?

A buddy got a set of used Bang & Olufsen speakers. He claims that B&O are the best. To be honest, I never heard of them before. After doing some research, it appears that B&O are only sold thru their own stores and are a high fashion brand like Eddie Bauer. Am I right? Do they sound good or is it only a name? Can my RTi's compete or should I hide them in the closet when he comes over? :)
My 7.1 setup consists of:
Denon 3803
Panasonic DVD
RTi70s front
CSi40 front center
RTi28s side surround
FXi30s back surround
PSW202 Subwoofer - Hey, it's my first sub!
RCA 46" 4:3 RPTV

Are you kiddin' me? First lets try to compare apples w/ apples. I wouldn't consider Eddie Bauer "high fashion." I worked for them for over 5 years. If you wanted, you could mention EddieBauer is to PolkAudio, as Versace is to B & O. I've never listened to B & O speakers, but I know they are some seriously spendy speakers. So with that, I'm sure they are very nice sounding speakers. But that doesn't mean you can't be proud of your speakers (and no, don't hide them in your closet when your friend comes over). If I were you, I'd show your friend just how much your speakers kick **** when he comes over next time. Pop in a movie like U-571 or Phantom Menace and I'm sure your friend's jaw will drop.

B&O is pure style over function. VERY average sound quality at best. VERY overpriced for what you get. Your RTi is probably the better speaker...It is certainly the better value!

The way I see it, if you took the time to do the research, the listening, and the setup in order to squeeze every last bit of performance from your budget, it is YOUR system and you should be proud of it. If you just go to Wal-Mart and buy the most expensive "hi-fi" they have, probably a crappy all in one component system, you know the type - all covered in buttons and tower speakers a whopping 2 feet tall, then you should be the one who is ashamed.

I heard the BO speakers, i forgot which model, it was the tallest one. they have a store in the mall in Cali where i was on vacation, but anyways, I wasnt that all impressed with them. the salesman tried to convince me that the low end was there, and it was accurate when i was listening to the music because the 4.5" speakers were "powered" and that makes all the difference. To be honest, they remind me of bose speakers. they look nice and they sound good, but they arent accurate at all. They are warm and nice, but they push the midrange way too much in my opinion and lack true full range accuracy. But hey, what do I know. its just my opinion on them...but i almost bought them cause man they are so cool looking...in the sound Vs looks dilemna, sound always wins.

With B&O, you're paying more for the looks than sound quality.

Just do what Chris told you. When he comes over, pump up those RTi's and make him jelous for saying his speakers are better than yours.

Buddy with the B&O's came over for a Memorial Day party. My Denon and RTi's rocked the house the whole night. Everyone agreed the RTi's sounded awesome for all the music we were playing.

I'm still looking forward to hearing his B&O's one day. I'm told they are large with lots of chrome.

I agree with the Polk devotees above. Once upon a time B&O made a formidable speaker, but that was a long time ago.

BTW, they also made decent TT's (Beogram line) and a very fine cartridge, once upon a time...
