Need advice on receiver.

Thanks for all the help on the speakers and subwoofer. My budget is around $1500 bucks, of those $1500 I already spend most of that money in speakers and Sub:

So $875 are gone. Now I need a receiver. I been looking at the Yamaha RXv-765, RXV-1065 and Denon AVR 2310 and 1910. Any advice on this and other receivers would be greatly appreciated.

Grab a Yamaha RX-v4600 instead. It is an older model, but is within your budget with money to spare and will outperform the others you make mention of.

Yamaha RX-V2700 and up if you want to go the 7.1 route. It will depend on what bells and whistles you want. Is HDMI important, also are you eventually going to use an external amp. There are some nice Onkyo 805's out there and Pioneer pieces that can be had on the used market. You need to do your homework first and tell us what is important to you and what you are looking for in a receiver. Many things to consider. I prefer Yamaha's like John. I have had good luck with there higher end models.

You will love that set up. I had a STF-2 and it is sweet, also had the Monitor 70's, a very nice speaker for 179 bucks. I have a Yamaha receiver and they are known for making excellent equipment. Check the local craigs lists in your area, I picked up a Sony STR-DA3ES receiver for my bedroom for 100 bucks in my area.

Do not skimp with entry level equipment, you will regret it later IMHO.

I got everything in. Today I bougth a Denon 3310ci. Now I need the time to set this up.

Please consider Onkyo TX-SR608-7.2 Channel Receiver for $600.
You should definitely consider that receiver before buying anything else.
Onkyo 600 series is what that company is based upon for all of their great receiver and pre-amplifier lines.

Sorry, I did not read your last post.
I thought your budget was around $600.
If you could buy a $1,500 7.1-Channel Denon 3310CI, with THD=0.05% and 120 wpc that weigh 29 lbs, which is a Great Receiver, then I would strongly recommend exchanging it with a $1,600 9.2-Channel Onkyo TX-NR1007, with the same THD=0.05% and 135 wpc that weigh a massive 52 lbs, or 23 lbs or 80% more than the Denon 3310CI. Onkyo TX-NR1007 is a Great Receiver that should cost way more than $1,600. Even though you would not really need the extra 2 channels, the extra 0.1 for a possible second subwoofer down the road would be a great add-on that will yeild the biggest-bang-for-the-buck.
I believe you can still change it if you decide to do so.
I am just a big fan of Onkyo, even though I know how good Denon makes their receivers as well as Onkyo.

One important point is that Onkyo receivers have more and most up-to-date features for similarly priced receivers of their competitors, namely Yamaha, Pioneer, NAD, Rotel, Marantz, and Denon.

I'd like to know just where you get that information from. When I was shopping for my receiver about a year ago, the Denon (AVR-788) I ended up with was essentially the same in terms of features and ratings as the similarly priced Onkyo's. I'm comparing this using the regular price on both receivers.

I ended up picking the Denon over the Onkyo simply because it was on clearance and therefore nearly half the price. In the end, Denon and Onkyo are both great receivers. If the Denon wasn't on clearance it would've been a much more difficult decision on which to pick.

Currently, I compared Yamaha's $1,900 RX-V3900, Denon's $1,500 AVR-3210CI, Pioneer's $1,800 SC-25, NAD's $2,500 T-765, and Marantz's $2,000 SR8002 to Onkyo's $1,600 TX-NR1007. Of course, you can buy any of these much cheaper somewhere online than the suggested retail prices.

If you compare specifications for these competitors' receivers to those of Onkyo TX-NR1007, mainly THD at total rated power from 20-20,000 Hz, Rated Power at 2-Channels driven, Weight, and the Video Processing Programs, Onkyo is at least equal or outperforms them all.

I am just a big Onkyo fan for a right reason.

I suppose it may be different for their higher end models. However, as far as the low to midrange models go, the difference is minimal at best.

I got a factory refurbish denon 3310 for $740. My budget was low, that's why I went for the refurbish unit, Now I hope I made the wrigth decission. For a new person getting into the HT game is so difficult. All the options out there!. Thanks for all the answers. I tought I did my home work but I left a lot of " rocks unturn". Next time I will be more prepare.

I would NOT go with the Onkyo 608 because it does NOT have pre-outs in case you'd like to add an external amp later on. I made a similar mistake when I bought my 606 about 2 years ago.

Also, Onkyo usually rates their watts per channel at 2 channel's driven because it looks better to have a higher number, where the wpc is considerably lower than it looks. I couldn't wait to sell my 606. I think it have a VERY good home theatre sound - tended to be very bright, yet detailed. I wanted a warmer sound for music playback, with more power, so I have a HK 354, and I will never look at what I missed...75wpc at all channels driven, love the sound, has pre-outs which I use, IPod dock, and got it cheap as can be, refurbished, on the official ebay store.

Only NAD, HK, and a few other companies rate their Rated Power per Channel correctly, at All Channels Driven Simultaneously rate. Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, and Denon rate theirs at 2 Channels Driven rate, even though some of them say 7 Channels Driven, it does not say the critical WORD "Simultaneously" as supposed to, indicating only 2 Channels Driven Simulatneously. Even considering that $2,500 NAD, for example, which has 80 wpc 7-Channels Driven Simultaneously, produces 120 watts when driving 2 Channels, not any better than the Yamaha's, Onkyo's, Denon's, and Pioneer's.
Even considering these, Onkyo has the most up-to-date features than definitely those fancy NAD, Marantz, or HK receivers and even than most other companies including Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon. The differences are minor, but still subtle more features, 9.2 instead of 7.1 and newer Video Upscaling programs, for examples. Of course, some receivers have Bright sound and some Warm sound, than the others, which should also be considered when choosing one's Receiver.
One can get aformentioned $1600 Onkyo TX-SR1007 for $1050 New online, cheaper if Refurbished as well.
