So I'm having a weird problem with the audio. I can't get lossless audio, so I'm using the optical cable to get surround. The weird thing is that with the English track I only get audio in the two front channels, no surround at all. I believe the English track os dts ma.
When I switch over to the French Dolby digital track I get all channels.
Shouldn't the dts track just get downconverted? I need to confirm, but I'm almost certain i've never noticed this before on other movies.

I'm wondering if it's a matter of the disc actually needing to have the regular dts track as well? I was under the impression that the lossless track was always being downconverted vs the compressed dd or dts track actually physically being on the disc, but now I'm rethinking that.

Bitstream from the PS3 can only transmit 2 channels of lossless audio via optical connections.
If you want surround you will need to use PCM which basically decodes the audio at the PS3 and transmits it to your reciver as 5.1 or 7.1, but it will not be lossless. Or, use HDMI to a reciever that can decode lossless formats. -

Not sure what you're talking about. The OP is using an optical connection. The ps3 can bitstream the 'core' DTS-HD MA track and mandatory backup DD track (for TrueHD) just fine in full surround. You can choose to have the ps3 transmit lossless via PCM over optical in two channels. But all ps3s except the slim are incapable of bitstreaming lossless, IIRC. -
As I pointed out in the OP's other thread, DTS-HD MA contains a 'core' track, which is basically the equivalent of a vanilla DTS track although at a higher quality than found on SD-DVDs. So it's my understanding that all DTS-HD MA disks should contain this core track and that it should be accessible as a full surround 'vanilla' DTS backup for systems which can't transmit lossless.
TrueHD does not have a 'core'. So I think it's mandated in the standards that all TrueHD disks have to include a seperate 'vanilla' DD track as a backup. -
Rahter that start a new thread on the movie, I'll post in here. First off what a great movie, tons of action and suspense for me. I really liked this one, the BD was very sharp and had excellent PQ. The sound was right along with the PQ. Good effects and the bass was awesome on the dual subs, especially in the Lexus car plant. This was a blind buy for so thanks for recommending this one in some other threads. I've had this on DVD and never watched it.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Agreed, xcapri... There's no comparison between this and Avatar, IMHO, and I will watch it far more often.
