Hi everyone. Im trying to decide between the rti10 ($249.00) vs the rti 5 ($299.00). I can't find no info anywere on the rti 10. I know they are discontinued but, if they are better than the rti 5 I would grab them. Thanks in advance. BTW. I got no equipment at all. Starting from scratch. The room Im going to set up is 18X14. I don't have the $$$ to buy all the equipment at once, but I want to start with a decent set of speakers and go from there. Thanks in advance for all the help.

The RTi series is the predecessor to the current RTiA line. RTi10s are the equivalent to the RTiA7 (1 step up from the 5s). You can save a good bit of $$ by going with the older line and they are still available new at a lot of places online. Try Polk Audio Direct on eBay for some good deals on either line. Most would say the 5s need a decent sub, while the 10s can cut it on their own, at least for music. A sub would benefit either choice if it's HT you're most interested in. The 10s can be driven with a receiver, especially if there's a sub/crossover in the mix, however, you're right - they'll really sing with an amp. They're not especially difficult to drive, though, as the next step up reportedly is (RTi12/RTiA9). -
Thank you for the responses. My main use would be HT, with music not to far behind. Im looking into the DT Supercube III for the sub or something similar. I know the SCIII is an expensive Sub, but all the reviews are very good so far. As far as the other componets, I will drive the speakers with a receiver first and later on, maybe add an Amp. I'm in a very thigth budget rigth now, so Im looking for good deals, even if they are refurbish.

Im also looking at the Polk Audio DSW Micro Pro 2000 8" Powered Subwoofer or Polk Audio PSW505 12" Powered Subwoofer. I also that I can order the monitor 70, CS2 and the Monitor 40s on Newegg for $591. Is this a good set up? Thanks again for al your help.

If movies are your main concern, many people actually prefer the RTi A5/RTi8 to the RTi10/RTiA7. The RTi10's have a 7 inch woofer that will allow them to dip into the lower frequencies, but the A5's have two mid-bass drivers (vs the one mid-bass driver in the 10's), that will give them a more prominent mid-range. Many report that the 10's are the brightest of the RTi line.
For movies, the low frequency material is best handled by a dedicated sub, giving little value to the 7 inch woofer in the RTi10.
How much are you planning on spending on the DSW Micro-pro sub? For the typical prices these things sell at, you could pick up a HSU STF-2, or SVS PB10-NSD. Both of these subs will vastly outperform any polk sub.My System Showcase!

I have the A5's now and am very happy with them. I am sure the 10's would be great as well. i agree with the others that a good sub is needed to get the most out of the HT department. i would recommend looking into either the HSU or SVS models. The polk 505 is a great deal and is well regarded around here. It will not go as low as some of the others that are available but it is a quality sub for sure.Front - RTiA5's

I have the RTi-10 and demo'd the RTi-A5 for over a month in my house. The A5s have a more pronounced mid-range and are little laid back from the 10s. If your have a quality sub the A5 are great. With the amp in my signature the 10s will compete with cheaper subs as far as output and extension goes.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH
