CD burning

Hey guys.
Not sure if this the correct section to post this but does burning a CD from Windows Media Player make a difference in sound quality.
Miller Lite Scott gave me a burned CD that sounds great and registers as a HDCD on CD player.
I'm sure this has been covered before but if I could burn some CD's that I want it would save me some serious coin.
Thanks as always.

Tony I burned that CD just using iTunes lossless. Sal put a program on my computer that makes exact copies and I think it is called Nero.
I have not really compared it to anything other than that Millage Gilbert cd was burned using nero and it sounds pretty good.
I am sure Sal will chime in with all the info.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
I've used Windows Media Player 10 on super slow setting and am very happy with the results.
-
Thanks Scott I will look into that.
Joe I'm pretty sure that I have WMP 7 or 8 . How do you put it on super slow setting. -
In settings."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Tony you should be able to get a free upgrade to WMP 10. To burn at best quality in 10, you go to the buttons under the menu bar and click the little arrow under "Burn". When the drop down menu is displayed you click "More Options." An "Options" dialog box will be displayed with serveral tabs you can choose from. First go to the "Burn" tab and under "General" you will see a drop down arrow where you can choose the speed. On mine it gives you four options on the drop down menu from "Fastest" to "Slow." Choose "Slow."
Next go to the "Rip Music" tab. Under "Rip Settings" there is a drop down arrow. When the menu is displayed, choose "Windows Media Audio Lossless." Then at the bottom is a slide, move the slider all the way over to the right where it says, "Best Quality."
I hope this helps. -
EAC (Exact Audio Copy) is what I use most of the time if I am looking for the best results. For quick copies, I use Nero set to 16x burn. BTW, EAC is free and Nero has a basic version that is free.

Dang Joe is there anything you don't know.
I tried to download MP10 and it says my there is something wrong with my windows copy.
I will keep trying. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a pretty solid burn. -
Be very careful downloading MP. The last time I upgraded mine, it rendered music that I bought online inoperable I lost 40 songs!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Are you kidding me? I wish I knew half of what most people in this club know. You just happened to catch me with something I did know.:o -

Did it just overwrite everything Cathy? Are you sure it did't save the songs in a file somewhere that you may have missed during the upgrading process? It seems out-of-wack to me that it wouldn't save existing files. -
The songs were still there, they simply wouldn't play when clicked on. I would get an error message.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Maybe you need to associate those files with the proper extention that you have checked off in your WMP 10 options listing of recognizible formats. -
