Turntable to pre-amp IC

I'm using Ben's silver IC's to connect most of my two channel rig. However, when using his IC's from the turntable to the pre I get a nasty low level hum. I've tried with the tt ground on and off but the hum is there no matter what. Ben tells me that his IC's don't work great with all tt's.

My question is, what do others here recommend in the $100 or less range for a decent phono IC? Thanks.

I've experienced the same problem Kelvin and spoke with Ben several times about it. He made me a star quad configuration cable which reduced the hum but was still present. I had a step-up transformer in the mix at the time and that was really susceptible to hum. I got rid of the xformer. I got a cable from SME and butted it together with MIT Shotgun S3 ICs and am now a happy camper.

Unfortuntely, MIT's specially made turntable cables work extremely well but the price tag for me is prohibitive.

I would imagine that Mike's link above to Signal Cables would work just fine and if not you could always send them back.

I've used both Audioquest Sidewinders and Copperheads in your price range with good success as phono ICs.

Funny, cuz I used Ben's Silver ICs from my external phono pre into my AVR - dead quiet.

I’m using a Cardas Microtwin 300B (1m) between my TT and 33 year old cj tube phono preamp and I get no hum at all. You can pick this cable up from agon used for ~$75. The cable is on the warm/sweet side, not the silver sound that you may be use to.

Line stage to line stage they are awesome but that mysterious phono cartridge and tonearm to phono pre or pre with phono stage is where the evil Darth Vadar causes hum.

I'm using a pair of VPI phono cables--also Van den Hul "the first ultimate" is a good cable for phono,,,also,I have a pair of Grover Carbon phono cables that I''m willing to let go of-- good cable-- excellent support from Grover should you need it,,mine are a 2 meter pair,,and they fit your price range.BTW--the VPI occasionally go for about 110 on A'gon, but you have to act fast--good luck.

Never!! I'm on the no call list on my land line. I don't accept "private number" calls. I'm embarassingly rude to any telemarketer that does get through. I just despise them and still they harass my threads on my sacred sanctuary Club Polk!!! Maybe I was a pushy rat bastar% telemarketer in a previous life. SHHHHEEESSSHHHH.

hehehe! I'm on a "do not call list" and they still call, even after I've notified them of the fact and reported them. I'm not real cordial with them either if I accidently pick up thinking it is someone else especially at dinner time.;)
