I just picked up the MFSL Curtis Mayfield "Curtis" 24 K Gold CD. I checked on it today on the Mofi web site to find that it had been relesed! I will give a review of the sound when it gets here. I am hoping it will be mastered well and an improvement over my Japanese made CD I currently have. Now they just need to release "The YES Album".......

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

    Whats a 24k gold cd?

It's a CD that is plated with 24 karat gold, instead of the aluminum only made disc.

I just did a comparison of my Japanese copy of Curtis Mayfield's "Curtis" album and the MFSL version. I listened to the entire album of the MFSL version and then did an A/B comparison of both versions of only the song "Wild And Free".

If you enjoy this album, get the MFSL version. The tone, clarity, definition, and smoothness of the MFSL version blew away my Japanese copy. Easily the best version of this album on CD.

The trumpets in "Wild And Free" sounded completely natural and not shrill at all. The Japanese copy certainly did in comparison. Curtis's voice (which is mixed and recorded with already outstanding clarity) shines through perfectly and sounds great. The drums especially sound more defined and natural. In the Japanese version they sound muddy and sort of jumbled together without clear definition. This is certainly not the case with the MFSL version.

    BUY IT!
