Anybody use Sony CD-Rs for recording music?

I've been a big fan of Verbatim CD-Rs for a while, however, Costco is currently running a sale on Sony CD-Rs: 100 packs for $11.49 each, so I just picked up a spindle.

Actually, Costco sells two items with similar but slightly different packaging: Sony CD-R and Sony CD-R Music. They appear to be exactly the same though, except the former are a few bucks cheaper so those are the ones I picked up. Should their be any difference for recording music purposes between the two? (both are listed as having a capacity of 700 MB and up to 80 minutes).

Furthermore, any opinions on reliablity for Sony CD-Rs...good, bad? (I can still return these, as I haven't opened them yet)

I've used them before, and never had any problems.

I've never really done any extensive testing between different brands of CD-R's though.

Norm, the difference between an Audio CD-R and Data CD-R is that an Audio CD-R is coded making it compatible with stand alone recorders, but basically there's really no difference between the two.

I prefer the Verbatim discs also, but have used the Sony CD-Rs also without a problem. The Verbatim might be better as far as longevity, so if what you're putting on the disc is crucial, then these are probably a better choice. If you need the best possible blank media, then I'd recommend the MAM-A Gold Thermal discs. These are quite a bit pricier though.

Thanks for the explanation, Mike. I just use Winamp Media Player on my laptop for recording, so these should work just fine then.

I keep back up files of all music I record to CD-Rs on a separate 1TB hard drive so I should be OK with these. But after the sale ends I will probably go back to Verbatim. I've burned several hundred Verbatim CD-Rs with very, very few failures (I could probably count them on on hand).
