Favorite "Made for TV" Movie

Thought it might be kind of a different thread. Cable changed the quality level so dramatically from the days of broadcast tripe like "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island". Some are now good enough to find their way into the theater after their cable run.

Two spring to mind here, both are HBO productions...

"Barbarians at the Gate" - James Garner plays F. Ross Johnson, former President of RJR Nabisco, who decides to buy the company. Often funny, fairly accurate account of the ensuing mayhem, it usually stops me dead in my tracks when channel surfing.

"Citizen X" - Stephen Rae gives a great performance as a forensic pathologist leading the investigation of a series of serial rape-murders that began in the pre-glasnost, former Soviet Union and continued into the beginning of the Gorbachev era. It’s a true story. Donald Sutherland co-starred as Rae’s superior and gathered a couple awards for his performance. Max von Sydow also appears. It’s seldom aired any more; I wish I’d taped it.
More later,

    "V the Final Battle"!!!!!!!!!

Okay, it wasn't the best movie ever made, but I was captivated when it came on for the first time, and still pause and watch at least part of it if it comes on satellite.

Band of Brothers via HBO. But if we're talking pure (non-pay) TV, my vote is for Rich Man, Poor Man.

The original pilot movie of "Battlestar Galactica" was one of my favorites.

Have to agree on "Roots" and the "V" series. I remember my parents always freaked over "Thornbirds".

FYI, the Battlestar Galactica series is being released on DVD in November and there will be a new series on Sci-fi channel this fall.
    No excuses!

Another good HBO, true story choice, jd.

The ego of the character Alan Alda played was beyond belief...
