Wow, the Monitor 70's are really much different/better than the 50's

For my Home Theater Setup I bought Monitor 50's as Surround to accompany my Monitor 70 Fronts. As I don't have my Receiver yet, I hooked them up to my stereo amp on the Speaker B outlets,

What should I say? The Monitor 50's sound amazing in the Mid-to-High ranges, I heard almost no difference to the 70's. However, the 50s clearly lack "punch". So that's what those 2 extra Woofers on the 70 are for :D (That also means I'm really happy to have chosen the Monitor 70 over the TSi300/400)

But as said, really satisfied how they sound. Can't wait to finally hook up my CS2 and PSW111, hurry up Pioneer with your new Receivers :P

Those 70's are the crow jewel of the Monitor lineup, I love mine. I also have their "succesors" the TSi 500' sand prefer the 70's over those too. the 500's are great, just something about those 70's lol. Enjoy.

You won't really know how much better the M70s are until you give them some REAL power. At least 130 real watts/channel and preferably a lot more! They'll give you sounds you'll never here from M50s.

+1, my 70's sounded like a whole new speaker when I had them hooked up to an amp, esp. in 2 ch. mode.

Kind of a apples to oranges comparison. I would not say the 70s are "better" than the 50s. Just the 70s dig deeper.

I own TSI-300s (M50s) and M70s. I've run both on the same equipment...and I disagree. You actually can and do hear more than just lower, deeper bass on the 70s...they have better resolution and detail on the top end than the 50s and a better sound stage and imaging. I've tested this numerous times because I could not believe the much bigger speaker would be able to do that. Try it yourself but in a big enough room with enough power. As you add power the m-50s compress and the M-70s open up.

The DESIGN of the two speakers IS different...look inside if you want?

It's a lot more than simply that. The crossovers between the two are quite a bit different. IIRC, The 70's have a cascade array crossover, which the smaller Monitors don't have.

I believe they've been as cheap as $179 each at newegg before.

I picked mine up (new) for $159.99 from NewEgg right after Christmas and LOVE them.
