Help needed on bd firmware updates

Need some help here on bd firmware update methods...
I always used the CD method to update my bd player but my CD player doesn't work anymore on my computer, so I have a USB thumb I will use to unzip the file. The USB thumb I have is 1 GB. Is that plenty enough to use for firmware updates?
Which is the best method to use to update your bd player with firmware updates? CD? Ethernet? USB?
I contacted Oppo and asked them a few months back, they said it's best to use the CD or USB method because the Ethernet method doesn't always work with beta firmware.

Nope, I do have a USB thumb stick though, 1 GB stick, have any of you used that method and how do you go about it? -
I haven't. I just use a burned CD. I hate to sound like Captain Obvious, but does the manual cover firmware upgrades from the USB port? Have you tried the AVForum?Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I'm looking through the manual now and also at Oppo's website. It just doesn't tell you specifically how to unzip the file folder or if I even need too.
Do I unzip the file folder onto the USB stick first and then put it into the bd player to upload or do I just take the file that is zipped onto the USB stick and put it into the bd player and the player unzips it there? -
Nothing to it. Just make sure the unzipped firmware is in the root of the thumb drive. Happy updating.-Kevin

The amount of storage you need is dependent on the device firmware being upgraded, but 1 GB is WAY more than you'll need for a f/w upgrade.
The zip file on the manufacturer's website is intended to be downloaded to your local computer first where you would unzip the file - which may result in multiple .bin files that are part of the overall f/w upgrade.
**Follow the Directions from the Manufacturer**
Some devices expect the unzipped files to be in a certain folder - for example, the PS3 Playstion expects the upgrade files to be in a folder called "Update".

1gb is more than enough, extract the folder to the drive, insert it and turn on the player. If it does not auto find it, go into the menu under firmware then hi-lite USB then enter and it will search for it. Simple.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I haven't updated my Oppo in a while and it's not up to date, like I said my cd drive went. I think I might have missed a firmware update. If I download the latest firmware update does it include previous firmware updates in it or do I need to download each firmware file update individually down the list one at a time?

All you need is latest and greatest man, download it and be done with it. It's one file, send it to the thumbdrive and your good.

Ok thanks. If I decide to use the Ethernet method how would I go about that? I looked at the Oppo website and it doesn't say how to connect the player to the internet.
Do I need to connect the Ethernet port on the player to a router or modem? -

I was really really lazy for my Oppo upgrade...I emailed them, they sent me a CD, I followed the instructions and I did the upgrade in 2 minutes...done.
Just email them, request an upgrade CD, load it, follow the instructions...easy...done.

Plug in lan cable, turn on Oppo, go into menu, firmware then update. Again simple.
Of course you have to be wired into the router.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
