For anyone interested.
Been working on this for about 11 months now. Still not done with everything but this is livable now.
House Stats:
3 Bedroom rancher
1.5 baths
Finished, full basement
Finished garage (not complete, needs a floor)
Plot is 75 feet by 125 feet
3 car driveway
Built in 1956, before the "McMansion" craze. No Master Bed/Bath Suite floorplan, all bedrooms are similar in size. But, big bonus here, all floors except kitchen and bathroom are congruous Red Oak hardwood floors. The pictures look spectacular but they do not do them justice. The floors were pretty rough when we pulled up teh carpet. I spent about 5 weeks on my hands and knees crawling around the floor, sinking nail heads and replacing broken boards. I was going to refinish myself but rental and materials would have run me $1600+. Found a Vietnamese guy who was in and out in 3 days, sanding, 3 coats of poly with sanding in between coats. Did it for about $1175. Couldn't beat that with a stick and they came out incredible! I can't believe anyone would cover these up with wall to wall carpet.
On to business!
Photos are links 'cause they are huge and I didn't want to resize and lose clarity.

Was gutted down to studs. All fixtures are Moen, oil rubbed bronze as well as soap dish and such. Shower doors are sliding glass with oil rubbed bronze frame. Counter top is one piece, cultured marble. Floor is ceramic made to look like slate. Vanity and medicine cabinet are solid wood, facia is cherry, draws are ash and internal panels are birch. All trim and doors are pine, blind is solid cherry with double-strung privacy slats. Has a heat lamp, vented center light and floods over the vanity. Thresh hold is black granite. Contractor did plumbing, electrical and mounted vanity and and mirror as well as tile floor. There was too much rotted, damaged and not to code for me to tackle myself. All finish work including paint was done by me except trim and hanging the doors, my dad did that.

This room went down to bare sheetrock. Took 9 days of peeling wallpaper and paint to get it here. Blinds are "Ridge Pine" solid pine. All trim is pine as well as the bi-fold closet doors. Furniture I posted about here before. Ignore the lamp, it's temporary, new brass lamps are coming. So are brass knobs to replace the brushed nickel. It's tight withe furniture but that doesn't really bother me. I got a whole house to hold all my junk. This room is for sleeping and...well... Anyway, My dad did trim again and hung the closet doors. I did the peeling or wallpaper/paint and sheetrock repair and the new paint. I also finished and hung the bedroom door. By the way, the nightstands, solid mahogany, hand built by my dad. Two of a kind, signed and dated. I had to use them so finding decent furniture to match was very difficult. I think I did pretty good.
Second Bedroom

http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/bed2_3.jpg
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/bed2_4.jpg
This room was a cave. It had cheap paneling and an extended closet. It faces south east so not a whole lot of sun gets in here hence the pale green. But under the paneling was two coats of paint on top of textured wallpaper on top of vinyl wallpaper on top of paper wallpaper which was glued directly to the original sheetrock with no sealer. It took me two weeks of 5 hour nights and 10 weekend days to get this room fixed. I did the paint and hung the closet and main door. My dad did trim. All trim and doors are pine and blinds are the same "Ridge Pine" solid pine blinds as the other room. The futon is there because that's the room it's going in. The light is old and again, temporary.
Dining Room
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/dining1.jpg
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/dining2.jpg
This room was pretty solid but the floor needed alot of work in here. I replaced probably 20% of the boards. The ceiling had to get sanded down and re-taped with a ton of nail pops fixed. My dad and I split that work up. My dad did the trim, I did paint. The chandelier is gettin' tossed. The dining room has a wide opening in to the living room. Blinds are the same as the bedrooms.
Living Room
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/living1.jpg
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/living2.jpg
The living room is quite large. That rug is 10 feet by 13 feet. It covers 75% of the floor. That blind is 101 inches long. 3 blinds on a single stringer. Center window is a HUGE 50" bay window. The lamp on the stool is temporary as well. I had alot of work to do to the walls in the room. Someone put plaster up over wallpaper and the blue tape was peeling chunks of it off. I painted with primer to cover the old paint and then spent a week and a half chiseling the plaster off. That sucked. I'm still pulling plaster dust out of my hair. My dad did all trim, I did paint.
Front Hall
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/fronthall.jpg
Entry hall. Bi-fold doors replaced a solid door for the hall closet. I still have to fix the inside. The front door will need to be replaced eventually too. It's frame is dry-rotted. I patched it up but It'll have to come out eventually.
Back Hall
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/backhall.jpg
Goes to bedrooms and bathroom. 3rd bedroom is at the end of the hall. That's going to get turned in to a library. I'm going to build modular book cases out of plywood and fake out the "installed" look by finishing off with solid wood trim. The bookcases will be free standing but screwed to the studs so they don't fall over. Whole purpose is so that I can turn it back in to a bedroom easily if needed.
Back Hall Ceiling
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/hallceiling.jpg
This is the back hall ceiling. That grate is a whole house fan I installed with my dad. I had an electrician friend wire it up for me 'cause it was confusing as all get out. The wooden door is attic access via a Werner telescoping ladder.
http://www.dvsvtoa.com/junk/House/ladder.jpg
But the fan is the coolest part! It's got a weather tight, motorized lid in the attic!

Looks great John. Unless I missed it how come you don't have a picture of the outside of the house.
I live in 3 bedroom rancher and I love it especially now that my knees are going south. I love living on one floor. I've owned several homes that were two story splits, three story colonials, and three story Cape Cods and I loved each home however, I don't miss the stairways.
Good luck Bro. -
Looks like some nice work. We're currently trying to sell our parents Ranch--3 bedrooms and a finished basement, 1.5 baths....plot about 80/120 so it really sounds very similar to theirs except it was built in '68 so yours has a bit more 'character', I'd say! It's also useful to get some tips on what we need to do to get the house in selling shape! I'm not the handy man...my sister and brother-in-law....will do most of that work..plus I ain't in the U.S. in case anyone is asking.

To make it easier for someone to find out where I live and either hassle me or break in and steal my stuff? No, thank you. Won't be taking any pictures of the outside.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I got it from a website. It was about $200. I had to find the 8 ft. version because Lowes and Home Depot only stock the 10 ft version. You can get more info here:

It requires a fair bit of work to install if the attic hole is too small. I had to reframe it out. But if you have an adequately sized hole, installation is a breeze, just awkward. So get a helper.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

After all the threats I've received here from punks who don't like me, I would hate to have to end one of them for entering my domicile uninvited. It'll mess up the walls I've worked so hard to fix.
Also, you have no idea what kind of gear I have so how can you be sure that what I have isn't valuable?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Better to be safe than sorry I suppose though, on a side note it has always amazed me that people will have these killer sound systems in their cars cranked up so everyone for a 1/4 mile can hear them with decals describing exactly whats inside plastered all over the back window then cry about how someone broke in and stole their gear.

Thanks for the tip John. I think that the opening I currently have will work, but I will measure it again just in case. I also need to check the height of it, I may need the 10ft version. I have been to our Lowe's and Home Depot and haven't seen them there before. I'll ask about it next time I go in. Thanks again!I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius.

They were sitting on the shelves with the rest of the attic stairs. Lowes has them in the isle with the ceiling tiles for a drop ceiling. Home Depot had them with the HVAC ducting and other ventilation products or nearby at least. But they were with other attic ladders so ask one of the monkeys if you go there. They can point you to it. Both companies stock the 10 ft ladder but you have to order the 8 ft online and if you are going to do that, you can beat Lowes and Home Depots online prices elsewhere. Just search on Google for the Werner part number with the Werner name and you'll get hundreds of hits.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

If I lived anywhere near Allen, TX, I wouldn't have a problem putting one in. The hardest part is the fact that it hangs on the stringer and getting the holes you pre-drill lined up can be difficult. The ladder does have some heft to it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Has the house been moved to a soild foundation or do you just keep it on the wheels it was rolled in on?

Thanks for the link John. My brother-in-law and his business partner are supposed to plywood my entire attic, cut the entrance into the ceiling, with a pull down door, and get a ladder in place as a house warming gift.
That one looks a hell of a lot sturdier than those wooden fold outs with the springs that always scare the hell out of me when I'm climbing them with this fat butt of mine.
I like that it is telescopic. It looke like it won't take up too much space and will is be easy to pull down as well as last longer than the wooden fold outs. -

Are you serious? You've received threats!?! Did you report them? That's pretty eff'd up if you ask me no matter what circumstances especially on a discussion board! UGH! -

A guy just came by with a F150 all blacked out sitting on some new BMF wheels and it looked very nice. The wheels have a small amount of shiny on them other than that the whole truck is pure black with a RBP grill. He sprayed his tail/head lights black and they actually didn't look bad (I was thinking it would look terrible when he said that is what he did), i was surprised. -

Report them to who? Besides, most are punk kids with bigger mouths than brains who get all **** because I couldn't care less about their fragile psyches. Aside from that, the Intarwebs are full of mouthy punks like that rectal **** Bedpan above who say alot of things that they would never say in person.
Surfing public forums on the Intarwebs is like going to a college frat house party full of amateurs with an ego problem. They get too much alcohol in them and they lose all inhibition. Then they wonder why every place they go, they have a problem with someone. Well, just like the frat party, Intarwebs or not don't let your fingers write checks your butt can't cash. One of the reasons I would likely never have a Polkfest at my house is because there are people that I know would travel great distances to attend and I would turn them away at my door because Polkfest or not, they are not welcome due to the way they have behaved towards me on the forums. Is that childish? Maybe, depends on your point of view. But if you are going to act like a bag full of rectal sphincters all the time on the forums, I don't need you in my presence acting similarly and causing problems for me.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
