Audioquest Hawk Eye

I have a the Hawk Eye connected between my CD player and AVR. I'm using the digital output on the CD player and Digital input on my AVR (75ohm). The music sounds great with the cable but when I hook up the DBS (battery pack) the music cuts out and the battery pack becomes warm. Does anyone have a suggestion or any experience with this?
