Well it has got warm enough here to turn on the Air Conditioning for the summer, 62 Farenheight out right now as I type this.

REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

No actually I am an out of town NDN as they say but I have been here so long I am acclimated to the cold and dont care for the heat. :) I usally sleep with the window open no matter how cold it is in the winter, one morning I woke up and my eyelids had froze shut and there was snow and ice in my hair. At first I thought someone had came in and blinded me in the middle of the night, but as soon as I put my hands on my eyes they thawed out and I realized what had happened, a snow and wind storm had came in during the night :p

It's 62 in the house here and the space heater is on.. Funny the past 2 weeks has been 78-90F with the AC on. Got tired of setting the thermostat so i went and got a 6 time 7 day programmable thermostat with auto heat/air.

Heat stays on until the outside temp is at least 67.... A/C doesn't come on until it's over 80 or maybe a little cooler but humid.

We had two or three days in the low to mid 80's already, and I was perfectly comfortable in the house (as it stayed about 74 at the peak). Difference is, it's too early in the season for it to be really humid. Most I've seen so far was 45% on a day it was raining.

Now, once it gets humid, I'll be thinking that 74 is oppressive, and be running the A/C non-stop.

I like the part of the spring between heating and cooling seasons... Gives me a break from both the electric, and the natural gas bills.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Some of you people really need to grow a pair.

I'd rather it be a little chilly / warm in my house than live in a hermetically sealed chamber with fake recirculated air.

I turn the heat off as early as I can and use a window A/C only on the rare night when it is unbearably hot and I need it to sleep.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Yeah, you're right. Why would someone want to be comfortable 24/7?

I usually keep my ac on 78. Have only had to do it a couple times this year so far...I try and leave the doors open as much as possible with no ac. If I'm working outside I might turn the ac down to 75 so its cooler when I come in.

When its cold out, the heater usually stays on 75. I hate cold weather.

The point is you should be adaptable and able to be comfortable in a RANGE of temperatures, not baby yourself so you're only comfortable within a three-degree range and otherwise you're either shivering or sweating and miserable.

I live in the NOrtheast, the weather is constantly changing, and invariably the same people who **** and moan about the cold during the winter are teh same ones that **** and moan when it's hot during the summer, and it's because they never open their windows and can only be comfortable when it's 71.2 degrees.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Well I am a big believer in fresh air. but for me at least I find that no matter how cold it gets I can put enough of the right clothes on to be comfortable but when its too hot I could walk around naked and still be miserable.

What about allergies, dude? This time of year, when the trees are having sex, I can't breathe in the morning. I was so glad to move out for that fact alone because my parents are like you and they can't understand why I would curse and **** about having to have the windows open when I could SEE the yellow haze of pollen in the air.

I moved out and for about 2 weeks of every spring, the windows are shut and climate control is on. I sleep better, don't get sick as often and I don't feel like I got hit by a truck in the morning.

That's my same philosophy! You can only take so much off. In the winter when I had a roommate (year or two ago) i'd come home and he would have forgotten we had heat. He'd be bundled up no the couch for a 12 hour gaming session on the Xbox360 while the house would dip down to 40-45F.

I'm comfortable in many ranges, but when I sleep I do like to have it between 68 and 74. During the summer I'm out in the 105F temps doing yard work and in the winter i'm out playing in the 0F we get here as well. That doesn't mean I have to live in any of those temperatures. We open the windows from 68F to about 82F, but if you can start breaking a sweat, the windows close and the AC comes on. No one wants to be in a house that makes you sweat, especially when that smell sticks to your sofa. Also if you wait until too much of a temperature swing, your HVAC will have to work harder to negate that swing.

Regardless of what you other people think, if someone wants to be comfortable at a certain temperature, that's their right and not your place to judge them.

Allergies are obviously something different, and I'm glad it helps you. Personally if I had bad allergies I'd hope for medication to help rather than locking myself indoors for the rest of my life, but whatever works.

Ah, good, thanks for marginalizing me yet again. See sport, I have been taking medication...for years. I've changed medications 3 times in the past decade alone because the older I get, the more ineffective the medications are. I don't "lock myself indoors" because I want to, I do it because I have to. It's also the reason I like working in computer rooms. No dust, no allergens of any kind. Just lots ans lots of the cool, clean, dry, fake air. Makes a person feel normal.

OK, champ. Good for you. The OP was talking about air conditioning because it broke 70, not filtered air because of allergies. Not everything is about you.

Who said I used filtered air? I said I shut the windows and use climate control, just like the OP. The first week of allergy season, it was an average of 62 degrees outside. But my windows were shut and the AC on because it was getting too warm during the day.

You turn the AC on at 62? Wow. No wonder there's an energy problem.

My AC doesn't get turned on until it hits the mid-upper 90's or so. Until then, I love the fresh air from the open windows.

Yes I am personally the source of the energy problems the stock market the economic downturn and anything else you would like to put on my shoulders :p

Actually I probally use less energy than most because my thermostats are all set at 50 farenheight and since it is cold here 7 months out of the year the air conditioning is most likely ran less than most places.
