Hi: First post of a long time music freak. I retired a few years ago and moved from a big house (with room for big speakers) to a very small house with no room. (NJ)
In a moment of stupid generosity I sold my perfect Monitor 10A speakers to a local kid for $35. Not sure if he knew what he got, but may by now.
Fast forward to now. I am finishing up my garage (hangout) in the backyard and plan to dig out my old Sony gx700es receiver, my B & O turntable and set up some sound in the garage. It is 30' X 50' with 12 foot ceilings, well insulated and will have a big screen TV, Air and heat.
Sooooo, I want to find some Monitor 10's (I loved those speakers) or something close, and dig out my old records (for you youngins, they're the big round ones) and hear some Skydog and Clapton through something other than earbuds again. Will 4 Monitor 10's do the trick, should I find something else? I'm partial to vintage stuff.
Thanks. Looks like a cool site!
Joe

Welcome to Club Polk Joe! One Monitor 10 fills a garage, four would be killer. I say go for it.

Monitor 10's RTA 11t/tl, RTA 15tl, and if you really want a treat get into some vintage SDA's and welcome!

Thanks guys. Looks like it will be 10's. Local deal pending to purchase 4-70's era Monitor 10's in excellent condition.:) I started looking at SDA's though, so maybe a pair of them in the future?

I heard of some youngun describe vinyl as "those big black cd's her Mother use to play when she was a kid"
Lets hope those earbuds and compressed music didn't clog up your hearing...

Welcome to the fray. If you are going to set up a two channel stereo system, then a pair of Monitor 10s will suffice. More than a pair will kill your imaging. The M 10's alone with the side by side drivers can almost kill the imaging by themselves. Try a pair until you can find some Big Boys. A surround system with M10's would sound great. Get 5 and use one as a center.

Thanks. I'm also sure two will be fine, but I had entertained the thought of surround sound down the road, just for fun. The amp I have is a 5 channel, Its a Sony, maybe not the best but it works fine and has plenty of power. In the meantime, I just have two extra speakers. The speakers have been together since 1978 and I just didn't want them to go through separation anxiety.:p -

Love Monitor 10's. Not sure a pair of 10's would fill a 30'x50' garage though. Thats a helluva large area. But I have been known to usually be wrong though.
And 5 10's for theatre, I think would be pretty killer.--Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out. -

I'm sure of it Curt. Bad joke I guess, but I was around when they actually made them:rolleyes: (I also had 8 tracks, and Quad 8 tracks.) Good to know some young people appreciate music the way us old guys did. :)
