hard mounting Monitor 40's on a stand

Background:
I recently purchased a set of Monitor 40's for my home office and was planning to put them on stands. I purchased a pair of Dayton SS-SAT stands, and while it's a snug fit for width, the stand mounting brackets are fairly short in length...leading to a fun compute-the-center-of-gravity-for-the-speakers experiment. All good, and not wobbly. Except I do live about 10 miles from the San Andreas fault. So, although I really don't want to, I think I need to get out the wood screws and hard mount the speakers to these stands.
Question:
The stand mounting holes are about 1/2" from the speaker edge and ~2" from either side of the speaker's center of gravity. If you are familiar with the internal build of the speaker, will this work for wood screws? Suggested max screw depth?
Alternative mount: velcro!
Thanks.

I vote for the alternative mount method. I would strongly avoid **** the speakers onto the stands.Front - RTiA5's

+1 on avoiding screws at all costs. Velcro would be a good place to start, cheap and 100% reversable, lol. Welcome to Club Polk.
