rti12 placement limitations

I am considering a purchase of RTi 12s for a theater setup. Its actually a change of plan as I was considering a higher end inwall setup, but as my remodel for my HT room has progressed the fireplace altered some dimensions and style decisions. This has created a wall cavity of 18 inches and it would be a shame to use just 4 inch deep inwall speakers when i could fit full floor models. However, the floor units would have to be situated in cutouts of the wall, or cubby holes. The speakers cannot move forward because of how the doors and egress are setup.

So, is it worth it to get RTi 12s eventhough acoustically I may be creating a problem by placing them in a 52Hx12Wx17D open box essentially.

Will this ruin the sounds capability of the speaker or is it just not preferred, but still a billion times better than any in wall, etc.

Thanks for any details and info.

I am considering a Proficient M80 amp, and bi amping using 4 of the outputs, and have a total of 5.1 system out of the 7amp M80. I am theorizing that this method will eliminate the need for a sub. I am more of a music listener than a movie effects guy.
